Janmashtami

: August
With most parts of our childhood filled with tales of Krishna and his mischievousness from our beloved grandmothers who would hum devotional songs with much delight to us. Lord Krishna has always been the hero of Hindus, being the most revered god who holds a special place in all our hearts. Every year Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated in India in the Shravana(August) month of Hindu calendar with devotees fasting during the day and staying up until midnight to offer prayers all the while feeding themselves fruits, dhaniya panjiri (crushed coriander mixed with ghee and nuts) and a concoct of curd, ghee (clarified butter) and honey which is considered auspicious. Vrindavan is the place where Krishna grew up and Mathura is where he was born – in both the places Janmashtami is considered one of the main festivals. These two holy towns get started with celebrations a week before the actual day with various plays and rasleelas organized, dramatic enactments depicting the life of Lord Krishna which is truly a spectacle to watch, dance performances depicting India’s rich culture and so forth are organized. Bankey Bihari temple which is situated in Vrindavan, sees a lot of foreigner and Indian devotees who come to offer prayers and sing devotional songs. With the nearest airport and rail head being Kheria Air Force Station, Agra and Mathura (MTJ) respectively, we at OYO have done our bit to make your trip to this glorious occasion a memory that would last a lifetime. This Janmashtami welcome Lord Krishna with zest and unparalled devotion. OYO wishes a Shubh Janmashtami to you all – Jai Govinda!
