Janmashtami

: August
With most parts of our childhood filled with tales of Krishna and his mischievousness from our beloved grandmothers who would hum devotional songs with much delight to us. Lord Krishna has always been the hero of Hindus, being the most revered god who holds a special place in all our hearts. Every year Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated in India in the Shravana(August) month of Hindu calendar with devotees fasting during the day and staying up until midnight to offer prayers all the while feeding themselves fruits, dhaniya panjiri (crushed coriander mixed with ghee and nuts) and a concoct of curd, ghee (clarified butter) and honey which is considered auspicious. Vrindavan is the place where Krishna grew up and Mathura is where he was born – in both the places Janmashtami is considered one of the main festivals. These two holy towns get started with celebrations a week before the actual day with various plays and rasleelas organized, dramatic enactments depicting the life of Lord Krishna which is truly a spectacle to watch, dance performances depicting India’s rich culture and so forth are organized. Bankey Bihari temple which is situated in Vrindavan, sees a lot of foreigner and Indian devotees who come to offer prayers and sing devotional songs. With the nearest airport and rail head being Kheria Air Force Station, Agra and Mathura (MTJ) respectively, we at OYO have done our bit to make your trip to this glorious occasion a memory that would last a lifetime. This Janmashtami welcome Lord Krishna with zest and unparalled devotion. OYO wishes a Shubh Janmashtami to you all – Jai Govinda!

Q
What is a good time to visit Vrindavan city?
A
Unlike some destinations, Vrindavan doesn't have a clear ‘peak time or season.' This is because each season offers plenty of reasons to visit the land of Lord Krishna. But if your purpose is to indulge in the spiritual serenity, you should visit Vrindavan from November through March. The festivities during this time are on full swing and the weather is pleasant with the temperature hovering between 12°C - 25°C. Avoid visiting Vrindavan during hot summer and wintry days as the temperature can spike up to 45°C in summers or drop to around 5°C in winters.
Q
Which are the must-visit places in Vrindavan?
A
Besides visiting the famous temples in Vrindavan such as Banke Bihari Temple, Sri Gopesvara Mahadeva Mandir, Radaramana Temple, and Madan Mohan Temple to name a few, there are also fun things to do in the city. If you have an aesthetic eye for handicrafts, antique showpieces, and rustic wood crafts, you shouldn’t miss the shopping at Loi Bazaar. Vrindavan is also famous for architectural brilliance. One such place is the Pagal Baba Temple – a modern 11-story architectural attraction in the city.
Q
Is the Vrindavan city covered by the metro/bus network? What is the best way to travel across the city?
A
The prime means of transport in Vrindavan are bus services, on-hire Taxis, rickshaws, autos Tonga, and Ghoda Gadi (horse cart). Vrindavan has neither metro nor local train services. However, the nearest place Mathura has train services to major cities of the country. Though there are several buses from the Old Bus Stand to and fro, cycle rickshaws and auto rickshaws are great to explore the nooks and corners of the city. Their fair is quite reasonable.
Q
What are the ancient places on Mathura-Vrindavan Road?
A
If you're travelling to Vrindavan via Mathura route, then, you should visit these ancient places, too. Some of them include: Nandbhavan – the opulent house of Lord Krishna’s foster father, Nandji; Kokilavan Dham – Lord Shani Dev’s temple; Brahmand Ghat – the legendary place where little Krishna revealed the entire universe in his mouth; Raman Reti – a sandy place with a deer sanctuary, temples, and Karshni Ashram; and Barsana – A Vaishnava pilgrimage center with many temples and divine lakes.
Q
What are the famous ghats in Vrindavan?
A
Kesi ghat on the bank of Yamuna is a must-see place. Legend says Lord Krishna took his bath at this Ghat after killing demon Kesi (hence the name). Sri Kalia daman ghat – You can see the legendary Kadam tree from which Krishna jumped in the Yamuna to kill Kalia (the snake) on this ghat. Sri Bhramar ghat – Named after the charm of bumble bees present. Sri cheer ghat - This was the place where Krishna stole gopi’s clothes.
Q
Is Nidhivan open for visitors?
A
