A bike trip is probably the most exciting way to get to Goa. The combination of a beach holiday with biking tours around the picturesque state allures many adrenaline junkies. Tropical biking holidays in Goa have been popular among European and North American riders who want to escape the winter in their home countries. Indian motorheads aren’t far behind in their zeal, either. Be it solo or in groups, passionate riders from around the country take trips to Goa, mostly during the season. Bikers zooming through Goa’s roads on their mean machines are a common sight. It is this display of love for roaming the world on two wheels that led to the design of this OYO Home in North Goa. Located on the Candolim-Calangute road, this is the perfect place to stay for a biker riding into Goa.

A Biker’s Paradise

The space experience at this home reflects a biker’s emotional attachment with his/her machine. The design elements are inspired by the shape and parts of a motorcycle. One of the bedrooms has a bike alloy rim mounted on the wall and tied up with ropes – a simple yet effective piece of decor in sync with the feel of the home.

The highlight of the home’s decor is the accent wall in the other bedroom. It has a line drawing of a Harley Davidson, made out of jute rope and wall clamps, on a charcoal grey wall. Ashish, the designer of the home, shares, “Each bedroom’s decor is based on the bikes’ aerodynamics, feel and class. Both of them have their unique essence. The bedrooms are my favourite part in the home. The dark brown colour palette is inspired from the bold and rustic feel of the bikes, giving the home a certain character.”

The Thrills and Feels

You’ll get the feel of a bike ride even while you are indoors, and that’s what Ashish set out to achieve when he began designing the place. “I consulted a few of my biker friends to understand what they would like to have in a home for their holiday. They said that the place should give them an experience of biking, use materials of the motorcycle for the decor, should have a helmet stand, etc.” Ashish put together all of these in the home, to make it the ideal stopover spot during a road trip.

Adding to the raw feel are the bedside lights in the bedroom, made out of water conduits (metal pipes used for plumbing use). Filament bulbs have been fixed on the conduit elbows to make for innovative lighting for the room.

Easy Come, Easy Go

The furniture is clean, minimalistic and functional. The wooden furniture complements the brown colour palette of the house. He created open wardrobes in the bedrooms, to go with the spirit of road trips. “This place is for people coming in and going out in a few days, and no one unpacks their bags fully to keep their belongings in the closet. So, I created open wardrobes with shelves to keep their bags and hangers for clothes. It’s the easy way of storing luggage.”

Road-Trippin’ and How

The spacious living room has posters pertaining to biking, and a bay window with a plush seating for your moments of leisure spent at home. You can laze around with your group of friends on the cozy sofa, discussing your plans to explore the roads of Goa, riding through the huge expanses of green under the tropical sun. Bikers are, by default, outdoorsy people. So, there is ample natural light streaming into the living room, and a balcony right outside, so you stay connected to the outdoors always.

If you have already been to Goa on a bike, then you probably know what we are talking about. And if you haven’t, well, this home will inspire you to make a plan soon! There’s so much for riders to explore in Goa. People here love bikes so much that the state hosts the biggest bike festival in India. The India Bike Week attracts riders from all over the world in the end of November. Baga, which is quite close to this OYO Home, also has a bike-themed cafe, where you can spend some time chilling and exchanging stories of your trips with fellow riders.

The home is well connected to the main road, providing easy access, and is very close to the beach. Whether you make a dash to the beach for a quick dip, or just ride off into the sunset – when you return, this home will be the ideal den for your adventure-seeking self.
