A Musician’s Muse: This House In Goa Is Perfect For Dreamers And Chillers

Apart from all the partying and drinking, Goa is a paradise for dreamers and people who just want to get away from the noise of everyday life. And the perfect way to do that is to check into a beautiful home in Goa.

One such home is Dona Irene, a home away from home for the creative kind and those who want to just spend some quality time with their friends or with themselves.

The chill vibe of this house starts before you step into it. The verandah blends in with the greenery that surrounds this duplex and draws you in, leaving all your worries outside.

PERFECT FOR A FRIENDS’ TRIP

Large enough to accommodate a group of friends, this 2BHK duplex feels open and airy yet cozy on a cool evening. The design of this house was done keeping the owner’s personality in mind and for an eclectic group of friends, all of whom also need their own space to be by themselves sometimes.

The theme of this house is retro music, combined with elements of Goa and badminton to reflect the owner’s interests. The living room is designed for a group of people who want to either watch TV together, or just sit around chatting or playing games. It’s not too far from the kitchen or the dining area, so snacks are only a step or two away.

The dining area has been decorated with interesting posters which will delight those who enjoy their wines and whiskeys. You’re bound to find at least one poster that will reflect some part of your personality and will prompt you to take a selfie with it. This area is also the perfect space to set up a temporary bar while you lounge around in the living room.

The vintage furniture in the dining area was the inspiration for a lot of the decor around the house. The designer of this house, Aakanksha, says, “The existing Portuguese dining furniture set was the reason I chose to continue the Portuguese theme in the living and dining space as well. The green distressed finish was to lighten the appearance and give the space an open and contemporary feel.”

The decor of the house is also inspired by nature and the abundance of greenery in Goa, especially when it rains. Our designer says, “During the monsoon in Goa, plants creep up from any nook and cranny on roofs, walls, and drains. Hence I’ve used plant posters and painted plants along the walls.”

If you’re a nature lover, this house – the decor and the green surroundings – will feel like paradise to you.

You’ll also notice that the lighting around the house is perfect to convert this into a party place. Glass bottles have been cut and used all over the house as lighting fixtures, making for an interesting conversation starter and a great way to set the mood.

Cutting glass bottles and using them as light fixtures turned out to be a learning experience for our designer as well. “I bought a glass bottle cutter and learnt the process from scratch,” Aakanksha says. “I’m very enthusiastic about glass bottles as a material. I love experimenting with them as they come in interesting shapes and sizes. Since they are abundantly available in Goa, sourcing was also easy. Partying was also an element in the theme so I chose glass bottles as raw material.”

The process of cutting glass and making lights out of it sounds simple but it’s really not. It’s all about balance between temperatures and meticulous work with a glass cutter.

Keeping in mind the need for solitude, the living area also has a reading nook. Even though it’s not closed off or separated from the living room, it has a solitary, cozy feel to it. You can escape into your own little corner, with a comfortable chair, and read for hours. It’s perfect for short naps too.

“My favourite space in the home is the reading nook under the stairs,” Aakanksha says. “It is an amazing space to just relax, drink, munch on something and read a book or watch TV, even have a session of karaoke.”

FIND YOUR MUSICAL INSPIRATION

The music references are everywhere in this house. The decor has been done in such a manner that it looks simple but tells a story. You’ll see a guitar on the kitchen wall and a microphone on the stairway wall. Because who knows when or where inspiration may strike?

Our designer used wire as raw material for the musical wall art. But it wasn’t as simple as it looks. “I got a bunch of wire and shaped it by hand,” Aakanksha says. “To mount it on the wall, we used nails that come with DTH clips. Lots of jugaad and on the spot R&D.”

Try your hand at a little music and test your vocal chords while cooking or just walking up the stairs. You may discover a musician hidden deep inside.

PARTY IN THE BEDROOMS TOO

The bedrooms in this house are happy places. From silhouettes of renowned musicians to the airy feeling accentuated by the quirky decor, these rooms will be difficult to leave. Extending the party theme of the house upstairs, empty glass bottles have been used as part of the lighting here as well. One of the bedrooms had a loft space which has now been lined with empty glass bottles which light up from below.

CHILL, DO NOTHING

The balconies attached to these rooms are also perfect for those who want to lounge around all day. Take a nap on the swing, relax on the lounger, and put your feet up on the ottoman. Be sure to take your snacks and drinks upstairs so that no one has to move a muscle for hours.

But if you do want to move a few muscles, pick up the vintage badminton racquets in the house and challenge your friends to a game.

If exercising and running around is not your thing, point yourself towards the beach. It’s only 2 minutes away. Two of the most popular beaches of Goa – Calangute and Baga – are close to this house. Of course, if one visits Calangute Beach, Souza Lobo is a must-try. Their selection of seafood is popular across the country and is sought out as soon as people set foot in the sand of Calangute.

The Baga-Calangute road, with its abundance of bars and restaurants, is also nearby. So a good meal and a couple of drinks is never too far away.

Flavours of Goa

The more than 450-year-Old Portuguese presence has had a consequential influence on Goa’s culture, architecture, and the way of life, in general. Once you get to Goa, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a lot of Portuguese-themed heritage villas, picturesque winding lanes, and ample sites that bear remnants of a forgotten Portuguese legacy. But when it comes to the cuisine, it has hints of Spanish, Mediterranean, Mexican, Peruvian, Bengali, Kashmiri, and Portuguese flavors – that are sure to leave a profound taste on your tongue.

And if you love to cook, you’d have a great time in the kitchen prepping up dishes for your friends and family. But if you’re in the mood to try some local flavors, here are some hidden restaurants that serve the most authentic cuisines in Goa.

GUSTO

Sitting comfortably next to the iconic Literati Bookstore in Candolim, Gusto specializes in a Mediterranean and Kashmiri menu. While you have Mezze Platter, Seared Yellow Fin Tuna, Israeli Chicken, & Badam Korma on the main course menu, we’d recommend you not-to-miss the Kashmiri Kong Firin (semolina pudding with nuts, fruit & saffron) for that delightful after-taste.

HABANERO

With its abundant use of chilli and cumin powder, this Tex-Mex restaurant perfectly appeals to the Indian palate. Try the Macho Nacho, sweet chicken wings, delicious tortillas and team them up with freshly brewed beer. Isn’t that a match made in heaven?

BOMRA

This Burmese restaurant has a very relaxed vibe with its natural wooden furniture and bamboo walls. While here, dig in to the Spicy Tuna Larb, Slow Cooked Pork Belly, and the Homemade Shan Tofu. Oh, we forgot to tell you about the exciting mix of cocktails here – take your pick between Lychee Martini and Tamarind Martini.

SARAYA

An eco-hotel-cum-restaurant-cum-art gallery, Saraya, sits pretty in the upscale Goan neighborhood of Sangolda. You can swear by the healthy vegetarian menu and enjoy an organic, gluten-free, vegan-friendly diet. And that’s not it. You also get to have homemade vegan ice cream!

BHATTI VILLAGE

A quaint and cozy tavern in Candolim – Bhatti Village is the perfect place to find authentic Catholic Goan food. Open only for dinner, some must-try items on the list include Kokum Pork, Fresh Sana, Ox Tongue, and Dry Prawn Curry. Wash these down with some urrak or feni to get a taste of real Goa.

MUSTARD

Serving traditional Bengali and European culinary masterpieces, Mustard is one condiment that is extensively found in both the cuisines here. Whether you choose to opt for Machher Chop, Rui Maacher Shorshay Jhaal, Bhapa Doi, or dig in to the savory Dijon-stuffed Chicken Breast & Pork Medallions, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy.

ON THE GO

Being run by Marco Crisanto & Mona Nolavalia – this Peruvian café ensures consistent, high-quality food, drinks & service. Tell Marco your preference and he will do the rest. Oh, and Mona runs her own brand of specialty desserts called Mona’s Pantry – the Espiro Limeno is something to die for.

Goa is a gem. Anyone who has been to this magical place will agree. From a rich, unique culture to beautiful beaches and amazing seafood, Goa has it all. That’s why a visit here is almost a rite of passage for the Indian youth.

Taking in the laidback vibe of the place, it’s easy to think that there isn’t much to do here besides eating and drinking. However, Goa has a lot to offer and even the most adventurous traveler can get his share of thrill here.

Be one with the wind.

Another exciting sport to experience in Goa is windsurfing. It’s slightly difficult to get the hang of it, but once you do, it’s literally a breeze. It may look like an adventure sports lover’s fantasy but you shouldn’t be afraid to try it even if you’re more of a laze-on-the-beach kind of person. You may discover a hidden talent in you.

Feel the thrill of the rapids.

If you’re visiting Goa during the monsoon season, white water rafting should be high on your list of things to do here. You may not think of Goa as a place for white water rafting but maneuvering a raft on a swollen river makes for an unforgettable experience. This is not something you can do during the typical tourist season in Goa but, if you’re here anytime between June and September, be sure to experience the river in the best way possible – on a raft.

Discover life under the sea.

There are a number of professional diving instructors in Goa who will teach you everything you need to know about scuba diving and will assist you during your dive. Scuba diving is truly an unmatched experience. You can discover what lies beneath the sea and observe marine life in its natural habitat. Do your research before choosing a diving instructor. Most of the diving schools in Goa have websites so that you can make your decision before reaching Goa.

Learn how to tackle the waves on a surfboard.

All of us grew up with images of surfers on American television shows and wondered if we could do the same in India. Yes, we can. While holidaying in Goa, you can pick up a skill to brag about back home. Learn how to surf and tackle the waves of the sea on a surfboard. If it’s thrill and adventure you’re looking for, you’ll find it on a surfboard.

Explore the Portuguese architecture and churches of Goa.

Goa is known for its Portuguese architecture and magnificent churches. While walking around the streets of Goa, you’ll notice obvious traces of Portugal in the older houses. A large part of the richness of Goa’s culture comes from its unique history and links with Portugal. The churches of Goa are also a sight to behold. The grand buildings and the serene beauty of the churches is a must for those who want to go beyond the sea.

The carnival!

With February almost here, Goa is gearing up for its annual carnival. A bright, festive, cheerful affair which involves almost everyone in Goa, the carnival is a must for all tourists. The festive season in Goa starts in December with Christmas and continues till the carnival in February. This festival also has its roots in Portuguese history and is a celebration of everything Goan. One of the most enjoyable things to do in Goa is to hop aboard a ferry and try to spot dolphins. Shop at the Anjuna Beach Flea Market.

You shop in malls on a regular basis, but in Goa, why not try shopping at a flea market? The Anjuna beach flea market is famous Goa shopping for its unique wares. From colourful Rajasthani sarees and linen to Tibetan jewellery and Kerala spices, this flea market is paradise for ardent shoppers looking for unique souvenirs.

Try your luck at the casino.

If you want to gamble at a casino in India, Goa is your best option. Hop aboard one of the casino ships and cruise on the high seas while trying your luck. Of course, be prepared to lose a significant amount of money if luck isn’t on your side. But if you’re one of the lucky ones, you may go home with a loot. Give it a shot.

Indulge in nostalgia at the Chapora fort.

Remember the scene from Dil Chahta Hai where the three friends are at a fort in Goa? You can recreate the same scene with your friends at the Chapora fort, the location for that iconic scene. This movie triggered a generation of young Indians to run away to Goa with their friends, so finding the spot which started it all is just icing on the cake.

Do nothing, and laze at the beach.

If you’re the type to do nothing and move your muscles only the minimum amount while on vacation, Goa has something for you too. Just find your perfect spot on a beach and lay back for hours. Nothing is more relaxing for the lazy, tired soul. It’s only in Goa that doing nothing is also considered an activity, so enjoy it.

Why You Should Choose A Home For Your Next Holiday

There’s no better feeling than coming home after a long, hard day. Imagine having that feeling even when you’re on vacation in a different city, far away from your own home. Imagine being able to cook your own food and do everything that you do in your own home, but while on an exotic holiday.

Everyone looks at hotels when they’re travelling, even if they seem too expensive for what they’re offering. Some people think that staying in a home on a holiday means at least some degree of discomfort. They think that a home can never offer them what a hotel can. But booking a home can offer something very unique – your own home away from home.

Here’s why you should book a home on your next trip out of the city.

It’s private.

The most important thing to a lot of people is privacy. And that’s not easily available outside your comfort zone, especially on a holiday. Booking a home means booking a private space for yourself where no one will disturb you during your stay.

It’s all yours.

When you book a home, you get everything with it – gardens, terraces, balconies, swimming pools, and more. You can use all the facilities around the house without having to go through a maze of corridors. And you can even use the open spaces to spruce up on your sports skills. Carry some sporting equipment and get going. You’ll go back from your holiday fitter, healthier and energized.

You can eat whatever you want, whenever you want.

In most hotels, room service gets restricted after a certain hour. And that’s the hour when the stomach starts craving the wackiest things like Maggi with and a or a bun and omelette. You can even try to impress your fellow companions with a few special dishes or try the local cuisine. With no time limits, you can satisfy any craving at any hour.

If you can’t live without home-cooked food, booking your own home while on holiday is the best deal for you.

It’s more affordable.

If you’re going to be staying for a long time, or travelling with a big group, it’s more affordable to book a home. You’ll need to book according to the size of your group but the bigger, the better, right? Travelling with all your cousins or long-time friends will be even better if you can all stay in one big house by yourselves, without any interference about the level of noise you’re making. Huddled up in the living room over steaming hot cups of coffee, and laughing over all the old pranks you used to pull, is an experience you won’t be able to recreate anywhere else.

It’s casual.

The last thing you need, while on holiday, is a formal atmosphere and restrictions. Staying in your own holiday home frees you from all that and lets you enjoy your holiday to the fullest. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want, and not have people in the next room complain about you.

You become more familiar with the place living among locals.

Interact with your neighbours and find out from them where to go for the best food or the best views. After all, who knows the place more than its own people? Instead of relying on travel guides and books, ask the people living around you.

Explore your creative side.

Living in your own home gives you the freedom to find your own spot and explore your creative side. Whether you’re a budding writer, painter, or musician, vacationing in a home is sure to get your creative juices flowing. Even if all you want to do is read a book under the refreshing sun, you can find your own quiet nook and settle down for hours on end.

Plan your next holiday and step away from the conventional lot. Book your stay with OYO Home and make unique memories that will last forever.

A Home Away From Home In Goa

As soon as you enter this house, you will be greeted by one of the cutest spaces you can find. A living room decorated with beads and colours typical to Goa, a kitchen integrated into the living area, and a balcony with a hammock swing make for a really pretty picture.

Ideal for a couple who want to spend some time in Goa and reconnect, OYO Home 9788 1 BHK Near LPK Waterfront can make you feel like you’ve arrived in your own holiday home.

However, being on holiday with a loved one doesn’t mean that you can’t spend any time just by yourself. Our designers have made sure that certain spaces in this house are designed in such a manner that spending some quality time with yourself will seem very tempting.

While the balcony has a swing for those who want to be lulled into relaxation mode, there is enough seating to accommodate two other people comfortably. The floor seating has been positioned in a manner that you get a great view of the greenery that surrounds Greenwood.

THE COZY BEDROOM

The bedroom has a charm of its own in this house. The intricately designed lighting and painting on the wall adds to the brightness of the space. It’s guaranteed to give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Don’t be surprised if you never want to leave.

A GORGEOUS VIEW

The view of the pool from the balcony is tempting enough to make you want to dive right in. But we advise that you sit back and admire your surroundings first because they are truly unmatched.

UNCONVENTIONAL DECOR, ANYONE?

Apart from the serene view of the pool, you’ll notice another interesting thing in the bedroom balcony. Look up and you’ll see a door (yes, a door!) on the ceiling. Giving a really creative twist to lighting, our designers took an old door from this house and, instead of getting rid of it, they turned it into a source of light.

This balcony, lit by extraordinary lighting and surrounded by a great view, needs your full attention and usage. So settle down with your preferred beverage, the wonderful company you’re travelling with, and take it all in. You two will have so much to catch up on, so why not do it in a beautiful, romantic setting?

HAPPY GUESTS!

Our customers have been delighted to stay in this house. As a recent guest told us, “The home was cozy and welcoming. My partner and I particularly enjoyed the balcony space… The bedroom too was cozy and comfortable… I could go on all day about it. All in all, it was a really good feeling living there, especially because the flat automatically generated positive vibes. Believe it or not, we didn’t even use the pool. And we didn’t miss it either.”

Doesn’t that describe the perfect relaxed holiday with your loved one? So what’re you waiting for? Book with us and enjoy a trip you’ll always remember fondly.

Beach Vibes And Sea Breeze: Here’s A Gorgeous Home For Your Next Trip To Goa

Vacationing in Goa is a wonderful, enviable thing. But vacationing in Goa while living in a creatively designed home, close to the beach, is even better. Only a few minutes away from the main road of Candolim, OYO Home 9365 Duplex 3 BHK Calangute North Goa is a joy for anyone who loves the fresh sea breeze and being surrounded by greenery. From the owner’s love for the beach and exotic plants, to the quaint Portuguese touches throughout the house, Emerald is a house that has a tale to tell in every corner.

A DESIGN VICTORY

Redesigning this home was an uphill task for our interior designers. The house, bought in the 1980s, had all the problems that come with old construction because of which the house remained locked for long periods. Seepage, among others, would be a constant issue during the monsoon.

However, with skilled work and creative thinking, our designers and vendors were able to overcome these problems with minimum expense and no breakage. Now, one can’t see any evidence of the problems that plagued this house, and the only things that catch your eye are the intricate design details all over the house.

CARVING A GEM

Have a look at some of the design elements that make this OYO Home truly special.

A TINY PIECE OF PORTUGAL IN GOA

Each room has a different kind of design and offers a different experience for our guests.

As you enter the house, one of the first things to catch your attention will be the vintage Portuguese charm which is an essential part of Goan tradition. From the lamp shades to the reading (or napping) corner next to the stairs, the Portuguese touch is unmissable.

CATCH UP ON OLD TIMES

The living room has ample space for you and your friends to enjoy a game of cards or chess, gossip about old times, or watch a movie together. You can even set up your own temporary bar in the living room and listen to music in the background as you catch up on everything you’ve missed over the years.

GORGEOUS VIEWS ALL AROUND

The balcony doors in the living room open up to reveal a gorgeous view of coconut trees and a spacious area where you can enjoy a steaming hot cup of morning coffee or a chilled drink in the evening.

ATTENTION, BEACH BUMS!

The bedroom downstairs has been designed for true beach lovers. It has been decorated in airy tones and never lets you forget how close the sea is to you. Mood lighting with shells adds to the laidback beach vibe in this room. This room also has a balcony and windows, both of which offer fantastic views. Unlike rooms that are unnecessarily large, anyone standing in the balcony will not feel separated from the conversation inside. It’s a great spot to feel the cool Goan air on a relaxed evening.

AN ODE TO THE GOAN SUNSET

As you go up the stairs, you’ll notice a colourful wall on the side. We call this the Sunset Wall. With all the colours of the sunset right there in your home, who wouldn’t want to take a couple of selfies with it?

CHILL, DRINK, DO YOGA!

Moving past the wall, you’ll see a door which leads to a terrace. If you’re with a group of friends but still want a few minutes to yourself, sit here in this spacious terrace, admire the thick greenery surrounding you, or pick up a long forgotten book.

This terrace is also a great place for yoga enthusiasts to lay out their mats and get their workout for the day. It’s also an ideal spot for hesitant beginners. So get your friends to join in for a quick session of yoga and fill your lungs with the clean air.

SO MANY STORIES TO TELL!

The bedrooms upstairs also have their own themes. One of the bedrooms has a ‘Bombay to Goa’ theme because the owner of the house moved from Mumbai to Goa in the 1980s. From the hand drawings depicting the skyline of Mumbai to the posters on the wall, this room is ideal for those who want a tiny part of the big city in Goa.

The balcony in this room is different from the others. It has been closed in with windows and has been made into a cozy little corner. The comfortable cushions and windows make this the perfect area for anyone who wants to admire the view and feel like a part of it all but from the comfort of an airconditioned room. This is also a wonderful spot for the creative minds to write, think, or draw, and come up with their own masterpiece.

The second bedroom upstairs is perfect for those who love being one with nature. The pictures on the wall in this room are of the exotic plants from the owner’s garden, and the freehand drawings in this room are also specific to the theme of the room.

The balcony in this room has a particularly special feature. If you stand in the balcony at the right time of the day, you can see the sunrise on one side and the sunset on the other side. And you can’t miss it. Beautiful Portuguese-style signs tell you exactly where to look during sunrise and sunset to catch an unforgettable view.

PICTURE PERFECT

One of the most stunning aspects of this house is the fact that all the windows and balconies form a picture perfect frame. The coconut trees which surround the house make for gorgeous views throughout the day which can be seen from several spots in the house. This abundance of windows and balconies also ensures that the house is well ventilated and has a lovely breeze blowing in through the day.

COOK UP A STORM

Since this is a home, and not a hotel, you can also cook your own meals rather than being dependent on someone else. You know what you like best, so stock up and get cooking. But don’t miss out on feeling like a true Goan. Look up a couple of traditional Goan recipes and try your own version of them.

You never know, you may want to make this your permanent home.

Emerald isn’t a hotel, and that gives you all the privacy and time you need with your family or friends. It’s the perfect blend of different tastes for a group of friends or a family travelling together. So share a home with your loved ones on your next holiday to Goa, and make sure that they go back with great memories of a wonderfully unique trip.
