Offbeat destinations in South Goa that captivated me

Offbeat destinations in South Goa that captivated me

Yes, South Goa seems a particularly unusual choice as my friends commented, considering someone who’s a bonafide party animal like me! Yet, I went ahead with it since I wanted a break from all the madness of my hectic professional and social lives and most importantly, I had a whole month to chill before getting back to another work desk!

Goa seemed the perfect choice for taking in some of the most unusual and charming sights with a couple of pals for company and of course, enjoying the warm hospitality and simply lazing around with no constructive purpose always. While most of you would be eager to explore the hippiest landmarks in Goa, South Goa has something special to offer and I definitely took the road less travelled on my trip (been there done that earlier if you take Baga, Anjuna and other places into account).

I decided to book myself a room anywhere reasonable and attractive in South Goa (a tall order you ask?). OYO Rooms helped me find a comfortable hotel that offered a lovely room, great view and all necessary amenities. While booking my hotel online, I was delighted to know that I could book the room at half price as part of a special OYO offer in Goa which meant a fuller wallet! OYO promised to help me enjoy my vacations at half price and the trip started off on a hugely positive note as a result.  I stayed at OYO flagship 15006, beautiful property with a swimming pool and closer to beach.

Now to some of the most offbeat destinations in South Goa that left me spellbound-

Sal Estuary Hotel near Sal EstuaryI was literally watching my inner artist come alive at the sheer sight of the Sal Estuary that is beautifully located between the Betul and Cavelossim beaches. This is one of the best possible retreats that you can experience along the River Sal’s coast. I took a long and breezy walk along the Cavelossim beach with Father Time content to let me indulge for once! While at the Betul beach, saw some people fishing with the local folks as well. All in all, a nice experience.

Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary

Now I have always been fascinated by nature and to get a chance to experience it up close again was hard to pass up! I took off to the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary that is situated at the Sanguem Taluka. The lovely mountains and flora and fauna here did not fail to leave me awestruck and going through the dense forests is in itself a thrilling yet soul-stirring experience.

Betul Lighthouse

Hotels near Betul Lighthouse

Another gem that I discovered in South Goa was the Betul Light House. For those wondering how to get there, it is just 20 kilometres away from Madgaon. The lighthouse is straight out of an Enid Blyton novel! The lighthouse is an amazing subject if you’re into photography like I am and is located on a hill, looking out onto the resplendent coast. Walking till this light house literally made my day!

Dudhsagar Waterfalls

Hotels near Dudhsagar

I was absolutely delighted with my trip to the Dudhsagar Waterfalls. You have to go to the bank of the Mandovi River which is around 60 kilometres away from Panjim. I later learnt that this is one of the country’s tallest waterfalls. I got lost in a whole new world after visiting this landmark. I went with my buddies and we had a nice time sitting on the rocks and chatting here.

Butterfly Beach

Hotels near Butterfly Beach

I had heard of the Butterfly Beach previously and my curiosity was stoked immensely prior to the actual visit. I took the boat and boy was it a lovely ride! There is trek trail to this beach from Margao which takes approximately 2 hours but I’d had a heavy breakfast and my stomach disagreed with the idea! The beach is absolutely gorgeous- no two ways about it! And of course, I could definitely see some amazing butterflies as well. This was another destination straight out of a picture postcard with the sea urchins and crabs during low tide. I also heard that dolphins can be viewed here often and they also do their famous acrobats.

We stayed till sunset on Butterfly Beach, internally reluctant to take the ride back. After all, I was basking in the indelible beauty and natural splendour that South Goa has to offer. I’m sure you will love these offbeat destinations as much as I did!

Why I think North Goa Absolutely Rocks

Yes, I’ve been to Goa countless times over my rather short life till now and I’ve extensively covered all the touristy things that most of you already know, both in North and South Goa. However, now when I visit Goa, it is North Goa that I incline more towards. I think North Goa absolutely rocks and I understood even more on a recent trip when it started off amazingly! OYO Rooms helped me book a room online at half price (even the wallet likes it!). After getting a chance to enjoy my vacation at half price, I dived straight into my favorite things to do in North Goa.

Here’s why North Goa absolutely rocks-

Keri/Querim Beach touched my soul

OYO Rooms near beach in Goa

I had an epiphany on the somewhat secluded and pristine Keri/Querim Beach. Why, you may ask, did I choose this beach? Well, I’ve been to Calangute, Candolim, Baga, et al. These are popular but hugely crowded beaches that I no longer love that much. This beach brought me closer to the real soul of Goa and so was the wonderful drive to Keri from Arambol. We clicked several pictures along the beautiful route which is a must-try for anyone coming here! I loved the Ajoba temple at the entrance to Keri Beach. There is a running mystery about a tunnel through the cliffs which traverses to the other side but we didn’t find it! The icing on the cake was the ferry ride to the Fort Tiracol/Terekhol which has views to die for!

Morjim Beach ensured total relaxation!

Hotels near Morjim Beach Goa

This is North Goa’s cleanest beach. I testify to the fact! The triangular beach has waves coming neatly at you from two different ways. Kite surfing is popular on this beach and I just love the dedicated nesting zone for Olive Riddley turtles! I enjoyed swimming here and walking through the Siolem village that is straight out of a novel with its greenery and lip-smacking fish curry sold at local restaurants.

Fort Aguada is where I got my mojo back

OYO near Fort Aguada

Looking for a spot that inspires confidence, awe and wonder? Fort Aguada is North Goa’s crown jewel for sure! I enjoyed my visit immensely and the lighthouse view is something else indeed! I did not have to shell out any entry fee for sampling the incredible view that I simply cannot describe in a few words!

I tried my luck (without luck!) at the casinos!

Casino in Goa

If, like me, you’re the sort who will enjoy a casual game of poker or teen patti, North Goa has some of the best casinos available. Truly, this is India’s Las Vegas and I tried my luck unsuccessfully at the Casino Palm on the Calangute Beach. Yes, I didn’t win much but the experience was out of the world. Some of my friends visited MV Caravela as I heard and I’ve put it on my to-do list for the next Goa jaunt. This is an offshore casino on the Mandovi Beach where you can savour the evening cruise with tempting food and gamble at the same time.

I shopped like crazy at North Goa

North Goa shopping places

North Goa is for those shoppers (like me) who enjoy quaint and charming things. The Anjuna Market, was of course, a big attraction for me since I picked up a charming beach shirt and other apparel at dirt cheap prices! I loved going to the Mapusa Market to pick up some fish and meat for a bout of experimental cooking along with some more clothes (we can never really have enough can we?). In fact, if you’re on the lookout for really affordable wine, you’ll get it here! Bicholim is where I interacted with some really skilled potters and picked up a few of their exquisite creations for my friends and family members.

The Grande Island Tour was magnificent

Great Island tour Goa

Adventure junkies should certainly go on the Grande Island trip! I got picked up from Panjim and went on the boat ride. All necessary safety equipment is available and the actual trip starts from Dona Paula’s Hawai Beach. While sipping on my soft drink and munching on delectable nibbles, I kept looking out for dolphins and nearly spilled my drink overboard when I did see them! After all that excitement, I went snorkeling near Grande Island and it was also a superb experience. The Hansa Beach was another treat where I lazed around for a bit and then we group tourists played a game of football to whet our appetite for the sumptuous lunch that followed.

15 Awesome Ideas for Wedding Couple Photography

Weddings are a once in a lifetime deal, well at least that’s the plan for the most. The special moments must be captured and framed so that when you cannot visualise the beautiful memories anymore, you can relive your wedding day through these pictures. The most important part of any wedding is obviously the bride and the groom. These wedding photographs will help you capture the essence of your wedding day..

Essentials

Before moving on here are some prerequisites:

  • Relaxed and Confident Bride and Groom: The disposition of the subjects is the most crucial thing. You cannot fake happiness. Even if the couple is happy generally, the wedding day adds pressure. The couple should be stress-free.
  • Makeup: Of course the bride and groom will look their best on their wedding day, but a makeup artist should be present for touch-ups before every photograph.
  • Professional Photographer: A professional camera is essential. You can hire a reputed photographer or assign the task to a skilled friend or relative whom you can rely.
  • The List of Poses: You should have the list of the idea of poses ready so that the photographer can catch you at the right time for each pose throughout your wedding day.
  • The Planning: The lights, dress, makeup, position, props, everything should be on point and ready before the moment so that it doesn’t pass before a good picture is taken.
  • Cooperation of people: There will be hundreds of guests so the task could get a little tricky for the bride, groom, and photographer. People must cooperate and give the space, and be present to be in the frame when needed.

Once all these prerequisites are arranged, you can get started. If you need help with ideas for the Indian wedding poses, here are some.

  1. Haldi

The Haldi ceremony is an ominous and indispensable ceremony. It must be captured on camera. The turmeric smeared smiling bride and the playing Haldi with friends, these types of poses are classic and joyful too. Make sure your wedding album has photographs of both, the bride and the groom smeared with Haldi.

  1. Entry

The innovative entry ideas for brides and the groom are a big deal in every wedding. With the trend of the bridal entry getting more popular, you just cannot afford to miss capturing the bridal entry on camera. Don’t forget the groom either. Plan it out well and pose for the cameras. You never know, maybe a simple smartphone picture can turn out better than the professional ones. The magic of candid poses!

  1. Mehendi and Jewellery

It takes hours of patience and backache to get the Mehendi right. Let it last for more than just a few weeks. Let it last forever. Get close-up shots of just the Mehendi of your hands, of your feet and both together.

4.Getting Ready

Never miss this classic pose. It takes time to get ready. The bride is already under pressure to be there in time after all the makeup and hairstyling and jewellery. The emotional moments between the bride’s siblings and parents often take place during this time. Don’t miss out on any of it. Let the wedding album be the witness of what was going on backstage, the emotions, the preparations, everything.

  1. Sky Lanterns

It has become a trend to have sky lanterns or fireworks or both, during a wedding. This moment is a must capture. Have the bride and groom in focus with the sky lanterns or fireworks in the background. The terrace is a good place to get this frame right. Have a few photos focusing on the fireworks with the bride and groom looking at them, or at each other, unaware of the camera.

  1. Balloons

If it is a daytime wedding, the sky lanterns and fireworks become balloons and colour bombs. Nothing screams joy like balloons and colour bombs. Time them right to capture the dazzling smiles and love-struck eyes of the bride and groom in front of a colourful and playful background.

  1. Black and White Portrait

Take a few black and white portraits of the bride getting ready and of the groom candidly having a moment with his best friend. Bride looking at her father, mother, siblings, or cousins are must capture shots. Capture all the meaningful memories and also take time, so that the photographer can take a few clicks in the black and white mode. Edits work if there was no time for it. But the light and exposure come out best if the black and white picture is taken that way. Black and white pictures add a nostalgic feeling to your wedding album. You must have them.

  1. Bride meets Groom

This moment is always special at a wedding no matter how many times the bride and groom have met each other before. The coy and happy gleam in the eyes of the bride and the groom is too precious to let go in a matter of moments. Capture the smiles, capture the shy blinks, capture their hearts in the photos and put them in the wedding album treasure.

  1. Phere

This is a classic Indian wedding scene. With a professional camera and the right timing, you can make it look like something straight out of a Bollywood tale. Take as many pictures as possible and stop shortly for them.

  1. Vermilion

This is another classic pose. The photographer must be ready to capture the moment and the groom should smear the first ever touch of vermilion in slow motion so the picture comes out perfect. The bride should proudly flaunt this picture in her wedding album and decide for herself if she wants to wear vermilion every day after marriage or not. But on the wedding day, the vermilion is there to grab all the attention.

  1. Romantic Silhouette

Capture some silhouettes in the sunset or in the bright lights of the wedding hall. This picture must have only the bride and the groom in the frame. This one could be the perfect last picture in the wedding album.

  1. The Coy Bride/Groom

This picture can be taken at any moment, before the wedding, during, or after. It should look candid. The coy bride is a classic. But the coy groom is more adorable. So capture the shy moments of the bride and the groom to put in the wedding album. If the bride and groom are not the shy types, have people embarrass them till they blush.

  1. Twirl

The classic twirl of the lehenga is a happy picture to have. The wide smile of the bride or her oozing confidence, whatever she chooses to portray in her lehenga twirl picture. It is best taken from the balcony of the floor above, as the bride twirls looking up and everybody stares at her in adoration from a distance.

  1. Best Friends

The groom with his best friends and the bride with hers, together in a single frame. Make funny poses and take lots of pictures. Imagine the nostalgia 10 years from the wedding day. Now imagine looking at these pictures with wrinkly hands. Nothing can be more precious.

15.Bye Bye

This one again is a must for the wedding album. This could go with the romantic silhouette on the last page or on the cover of the album. It can be shot with the bride and the groom looking back from their car, or waving back while walking away as the onlookers wave out of focus.

These beautiful Indian wedding couple photography ideas must make your wedding album a beautiful treasure. Happy wedding and Happy Memories.

When you see a bride sporting the latest bridal mehendi design, don’t forget to compliment her on it. It will be sweet of you to even ask for the mehendi artist and compliment her or him. Moreover, if you really like a design, you should talk to the artist to the network. You too want to get to choose from a catalogue of the most intrinsic latest bridal mehendi designs, don’t you? Some brides are disappointed that the artist appointed for the mehendi turned a design down either directly admitting she or he cannot pull it off or by making excuses like it won’t go with the bridal outfit or with the hair! You don’t want to be that bride, do you?

Don’t miss out

Mehendi is an indispensable element at a wedding, unlike sangeet ceremony. It signifies the strength and purity of the bond that is going to be made. One wonders why the groom too not wears mehendi then! After all, he is the person the bride is bonded with. But imagine the appearance of a beautiful mehendi design on rough, hairy hands. Why are we even thinking about it! Some latest mehendi designs can still be tried on a groom though. But primarily, the bride holds the significance of the day way more than the groom. Both her hands and also her feet can be adorned with beautiful mehendi designs for bride. The future of their marriage is signified in those beautiful hands. Don’t miss out on the options to choose your favourite. A mehendi design might not look too conspicuous under all that jewellery but the keen eyes will definitely notice it all.

Ideas for Bridal Mehendi Designs

If you are looking for the latest bridal mehendi design, you will find all the options with a good bridal mehendi artist. But you could also get a talented friend to pull off a doodle just for you. It is your wedding, it is your mehendi. You should get to choose how you want it. You can get the design from a tattoo artist as well. They have a number of mehendi designs for a bride. You can also have your bridal mehendi customized. You could add in elements you want to and the artists will incorporate those elements in a beautiful design. So, the options are plenty. Here are some ideas that are latest and unique or popular and classics.

King and Queen

The two hands of the bride can have two different but symmetrical designs. There can be a frame of the intrinsic artwork with the face of a queen on one hand and that of a king on the other. When she puts her hands together with the palms stretched out, it can be a beautiful frame together.

This design idea signifies the intimacy of the bond. It also signifies that the fate of the marriage is in the hands of the bride. Which bride wouldn’t want to get behind that idea? Or the two hands can signify equal responsibility of the two people to be bound in holy matrimony.

Asymmetrical Designs

If you are not being able to make up your mind about a design, it is understandable. It is an important decision. What if you like two similar designs a lot and cannot understand which one will be a better choice? Family and friends often confuse more than help in these situations. Too many people, too many opinions. So, the best solution in this situation is, ‘Why not both’? You can totally get two different designs on two hands. The artist will make it look good. There will be some points of symmetry but the details will be asymmetrical. So you get twice the compliments and twice the attention for the two different designs.

Best Foot Forward

Don’t forget a little something for that beautiful pedicure. Why go through all that trouble? Just to wear some painful new shoes? Adorn your feet with some beautiful mehendi designs so that when you walk or twirl and the feet play peek-a-boo under your beautiful bridal outfit, keen watchers are curious to find out what the entire design looks like. There will be plenty of time to actually see the design in the coming days as well. So, you get to choose a design for your feet. Go for the minimalistic <em>mandalas</em> or full checkers or jaali. It is your choice.

Full Hands

The days of having the bride covered up in jewellery are gone. Of course, the economy is a reason. But even a Richie rich bride won’t want to look like a clown. However, the arms cannot go all bare either. It is her wedding day! And the designer blouse or choli has to end at the upper arm. So, full hands mehendi is the trick. It is easy for the bride as there is no extra weight to carry. She gets to flaunt a beautifully elaborate design. Also, her hands look beautiful with the colour of mehendi. Win Win!

Glitter and Sequins

An elaborate design might look boring and cluttered. A simple design might look too minimalistic. Glitters and sequins make it alright! Mehendi without sequins and glitter is for the guests. The bride has to be extra. This is the right way to strike the balance between the necessary extra and yet classy beauty.

Colours

Thank heavens for coloured mehendi. You can match your outfit with a perfect contrast. You can also match the groom’s outfit so you both look perfectly made for each other. Colours add details to a mehendi design like nothing else can. Also, for full hand designs, colours are a must. Don’t go overboard though. It is still a mehendi and not <em>Holi</em>. Just add the ideal amount of colours to the mehendi to make it look absolutely gorgeous.

Anklets and Bangles

To add to the illusion of more jewellery or to go with the actual jewellery, anklets and bangles out of mehendi is a perfect idea. You will not be wearing the jewellery after the mehendi and the wedding is over. But you will get to wear these for weeks and the wonderful feeling of being a new bride will stay with you for more than just a few busily ceremonious days.

Mandala

The mandala design is for people who want to keep it simple and classic. Maybe you don’t like heavy jewellery, makeup, or even mehendi. Then this is for you. Have a medium or large sized mandala at the centre of the palms and feet and some designs at the wrists, ankles, fingers and toes. Make a chandelier like the connection from the fingers. It will be the most classic look and you can proudly flaunt it at your office too. It is simple and chic.

Peacock

The peacock is the symbol of heritage, culture, and vigour. You can flaunt the heritage at the mehendi ceremony and wedding while summoning the vigour for your marriage. The elegant charm of a peacock design is unbeatable, especially when teamed with blue and yellow details.

Floral Patterns

If you love floral patterns, don’t shy away from wearing them. Yes, many people find them boring and cliché and so outdated. But they are just the opinions of people who have different tastes. If floral patterns are a must for you, go ahead and have it. They look beautiful. Choose the best floral pattern, with intrinsic small floral designs with some mesh or chandelier details and people will keep staring at your hands admiring the design! These were some ideas for mehendi designs for bride. You can also get the artist to incorporate elements signifying your love into the designs so only the bride and groom know the complete story behind the idea. Artists who are good with latest bridal mehendi designs will surely understand what you want. They will beautifully incorporate the personalized elements and symbols in the design. It is a good idea, isn’t it?

Choose your classic or latest bridal mehendi design with patience. Browse through all your options and think about customizing them as well. If you have started the search well in time, you will surely find what you are looking for.

Jaimala is the ceremony where friends and family make most of the fun moments. The bride and groom are given few lifts when at last they get to put the Jaimala around their necks. The brother here plays a very vital role because he is the one who would be messing around with your lifts when you finally get to do the deed.  Just click that moment and it will be a picture to torment when he is about to get married. Make sure to get the shot right while you are airborne to get the Jaimala done.

  1. Doli Shot

This would surely be regal in every way when you are sitting inside the doli or palanquin while your brothers are lifting or about to lift it. Just get ready for this fabulous shot.

  1. The Classic Pose

This pose is just like a portrait where your brother is standing behind you and giving a clean cut shot. It could be done in many different ways where you may sit on a royal chair while your brother is behind you. The colour combination is must in these pictures to enhance the overall look of the image.

It is true that weddings are a big burden as far as the hard work, stress, and expenditures are concerned. But at the end of the day, it is all worth it. It isn’t just about flaunting your social status. It is about creating photographs to frame for life, creating memories of a very special day of your life. It is about the Indian wedding traditions and rituals that you follow for the wedding related events. The discipline that is brought by following these rituals will make you ready for a married life, no matter how unconventional you choose your married life to be, you will need discipline to even follow your own rules.

The little things like the songs list for the wedding entry, the flower chaadar for bride, the little items for the rituals, are difficult to keep a track of. The best thing to do is to write down every action or event in separate pages with the ingredients or components below so that even if you forget, you can refer to the diary to check if you have arranged everything.

Just to help you out a little, we will suggest you some awesome flower chaadar ideas for the bride. The entry of the bride is a very important moment. All eyes are on her. All cameras are on her. She needs to feel beautiful and everything around her needs to be pretty too. The flower chaadar that her dear ones hold above her head gets a lot of attention, so do not keep it for the last moment. Use these ideas to come up with a really fitting flower chaadar for the perfect bride.

  1. Marigold

People mostly use roses and white flowers for a flower chaadar and that is too mainstream. Use marigold instead. They are a little heavy, so make sure the strings are taut. If the bride is wearing anything reddish, yellow or orange, marigolds will create very bright and beautiful contrast.

  1. White rose

If you must have roses, you can go for white roses. They are more elegant and will stand out in the mostly red background. The bride is likely to wear red. The carpet is probably red too. Even if it is other colours, white will stand out anyway. Go for half bloomed roses than fully bloomed ones. This way they will last longer and they look better too.

  1. Tassles and Pompoms

A wedding is full of flowers anyway. So if the flower chaadar for bride does not have some, it won’t be a very bad idea. Tassles and pompoms hanging from the chaadar is even better than flowers. Choose bright colours of tassles.

To make them stand out, get a white or beige chaadar and hang many tassles from it. Another style could be, to go for a bright shade of chaadar and hang a contrasting single colour of tassles from borders.

  1. Mesh

Most flower chaadars are put together by strings. They are either in straight lines or in crisscross patterns. But if you want to make your flower chaadar unique, try out thin iron meshwork to hold the flowers together in various shapes. Go for any kind of flower you want. Smaller flowers will help make intricate designs along the thin wires. Your flower chaadar will be uniquely beautiful and sturdy with this process.

  1. Zardosi

Weddings call for bling. If you want a traditional wedding style in every little detail of the wedding, go for a traditional colour for the chaadar, with a lot of zardosi work on it. You have to be very careful with this one though. Assign someone to take care of it before use because zardosi work can start getting ruined if it is not kept safe.

  1. Family Heirloom

Many families have the tradition to use the wedding chaadar of the ancestors. These are very well maintained, safely kept. Right before a wedding, they are pulled out. No matter how well it is kept, there is a chance of wear and tear. So, do not wait for the last moment. Take it out a few days prior to the wedding so that any damage to the threads can be repaired.

Use the same fabric and same colour of threads to repair them. Adorn the chaadar with small flowers and sequins, making sure the patches are covered. All this is in case there is damage at all. If not, all you need to take care of is it is free from the odour of being in a closet too long. Also, you need to put light flowers on it so that it does not tear. Maybe someday your daughter will need it.

  1. Umbrella

Floral umbrellas are fun and a hassle-free solution for a flower chaadar. Make sure it is a huge umbrella. Most of them are red or pink but it doesn’t have to be.

You can use orange, yellow, purple, green, blue, any colour you want. Make sure that the flowers hanging from it or stuck on it are of a contrasting colour so that it is all bright.

  1. String Lights

Use fairy lights on the chaadar to brighten things up. This is the best idea for a unique flower chaadar. You can even put the lights in a circle right at the centre of the chaadar so that when the bride walks under it, she looks like an angel with a halo.

  1. Bandhni

If simplistic and traditional is your style, go for bandhni. This is the best way to uphold local art and craft. Use it at your wedding. This is quite a statement. It can have mirrors on it or you can put sequins. Simply stick them instead of stitching them on. It is time saving and good enough for the time it will be in use. The flowers once again should be of contrasting colours.

  1. Pinwheels

If you want to go quirky and all postmodern, maybe a little western, hang pinwheel from the chaadar. As the bride enters, the pinwheels will rotate if there is enough open space to allow some air. To make it work, make sure the chaadar has long handles so that it is held higher to let the air get to it. Also, you don’t want the bride’s hair to get stuck in them.

  1. Orchids

If you want to go all the way classy with the flower chaadar for Indian wedding, go for the rare orchid. Pick white and pink ones. Peach is a beautiful colour too. Avoid black because most Indians consider it a bad omen to have anything black at happy ceremonies. Whether you believe in it or not, just avoid them anyway. White and peach orchids are the best anyway. Purple is good too. Contrast it well with the bride’s wedding attire. If she is wearing pastels, go for the lilac orchids. If she is wearing pink or red, go for the white ones.

  1. Multicoloured Roses

Thinking of multiple colours, one must come back to roses. You can use yellow, white, red, pink, and peach roses on the flower chaadar to make a perfectly rosy affair. It also represents every aspect of a partnership, friendship, peace, and romance.

  1. Dahlias

If you want big flowers, go for dahlias. Also, if it is grown in your own terrace, that is a huge personal touch nobody will miss. Make sure the fabric is thick enough to bear the weight of the flowers though. You can go for some dahlias scattered around with smaller flowers covering the spaces, or leave it minimalistic.

  1. Paper Lampshades

Paper lampshades surrounding little fairy lights is a very good idea for a floral chaadar Indian wedding. This is a little complicated so ask the professionals if they can pull it off. If they can, it will be amazing.

  1. Dome Shaped

Most flower chaadars are either square or rectangular. If you can get a dome shaped framework and wrap flowers around it or hang flowers from it and put a chaadar on, it will look unique. This isn’t too difficult to pull off either if you have a readymade framework.

Nobody can deny how stressful it is to arrange the perfect Indian wedding dresses, the perfect jewellery and accessories, and getting the best makeup done. Choosing the wedding venue, decorations, deciding on the menu, inviting guests, everything is just too much for the small families of the current generation. These ideas for flower chaadar for Indian wedding will help you save some time and focus on other things.

The couple then vows to take each other as the sole partners in every step of their lives.

  1. Heart with Bride’s Name

This is sweet and simple. What is best is, this can be done by the groom himself. So when the bride flaunts her intricate mehndi design in which she has the groom’s name or initials hidden, the groom can sweetly show his artwork too. When people are busy finding the groom’s name in the bride’s hand, the groom can show the bride’s name on his hand written in a nice cursive or a sweet baby like handwriting inside a heart. This does not only once again help the groom steal the show with his sweetness, but also lets the bride feel special too. Everything about the bride has something to do with the groom. Let your bride know that her name is etched in indelible ink on your skin too.

  1. Just Bride’s Name

If you do not want to go for the heart, for whatever reason, maybe you find it too juvenile or cliché, you can have just your wife’s name on your hand. You can simply get her name written on your finger, or the centre of the palm. You can have her name at the base of her palm. If you already have her name tattooed on your arm, you can sue the mehndi to replicate the same design on your other arm. But it won’t be visible during the wedding. That is even better. She will be surprised with the double dose of love when she sees you in person.

  1. Mandala

If you want to go for some intricate detail but are afraid that your hand will look like your bride’s with full mehndi on, you can go for the centre only. A mandala design is perfect for the centre of your palm. Choose a solid bold design so that it looks good on a strong hand. If you want you may get them on either hands. You can also get one design on your hand and the other on your feet. Trust it, it won’t look odd. The mandala design is the perfect symbol of a wedding. If you are into Disney, or your wife to be is, you can get the Tangled or Frozen mandala design on your palm and only you both will know where it is from! And maybe the children around, if they get a good look at it. Your bride will love it.

  1. Part of the Bride’s Mehndi Design

You both tried to coordinate every appearance of every beautiful wedding attire to look like each other’s better halves. You have matched the wedding reception tie nicely with the choli of the bride. You matched your wedding day turban with her lehenga border instead of your sherwani’s border. Why ruin the symmetry? The bride’s mehndi will definitely have a lot of intricate details. There will be many parts that can be lifted off for an individual design in itself. Pick the central part of the design or any conspicuous part, and make it the key element of your mehndi design. For this idea to be a success, you need to get the same mehndi artist or at least have the designs ready with your individual mehndi artists beforehand.

  1. Wristband Design Broad One

If you are worried about not looking masculine enough, here is an idea. Shave off your entire arm hair. No, not being sarcastic, seriously! Shave off the hair from your arms and hands. Wear a broad band of mehndi tattoo on your wrist. This will make you look twice more manly than all the man hair and no designs. You need to pull it off well though. Fold your sherwani sleeve smartly and flaunt the design confidently. Make sure the design is broad and elaborate and covers your wrist to the middle of your hand. Also, the design elements should have some broad bands to make it look bold.

  1. Head for Bald Ones

This is the sexiest mehndi idea for grooms. Many men shave their head and get it tattooed. Of course, it is not entirely by choice. Most men who do it, have already been going bald. It is better to shave off your entire head and flaunt that shiny orb instead of holding on to the remaining strands of hair that give away the baldness. By choice or not, if you have a full bald head, it is the best canvas for a mehndi design. There are way too many options for the placement of your mehndi. You can go for a full head coverage, or the back of the head, or the top centre, or just a side. You can also go for a borderline fence for the head. The options are never-ending. When you take off your turban, all eyes will be on you.

  1. Forearm

The forearm is to flaunt. All those days of going to the gym should not be for nothing. You need to flaunt your forearm on your wedding day and after that. Fold up the sherwani sleeves and flex your muscles unassumingly whenever anybody wants a look at the mehndi design on your forearm. The design should be a little spaced out so that the cuts on your muscle are visible and so is the entire design when you have your wrist folded to flex.

  1. Ganesh

The Ganesh symbol brings prosperity to the house and whatever occasion is at hand and in this case it is your wedding. Why leave the entire burden of bearing the good omens on the bride? If you don’t believe in them, maybe she doesn’t either. But here she is wearing all the symbols that bless a wedding. So it is time for you to do your bit. There are many symbols of the Ganesh. You can choose the intricate one, the semi simple one, or the totally simplistic outline. The semi simple one is a moderated choice. You should get it on your palm, on the back of your palm, or anywhere on your arm. It is good to get it on some place visible though.

  1. Om

Get the Om sign done for the same reason you would get the Ganesh done. The Om sign offers more design options. You can have it in a circle with some designs outside, or just an elaborate Om sign. You can even get it done on your head. Matched with an Om locket, you are good to go.

  1. Biceps

The bicep is a very good place to get a mehndi art done unless you already have both your biceps filled with tattoos. You can get the bicep mehndi done a day before the wedding so that everybody gets a good look at it during the Haldi. It will most probably be covered during the wedding. Your wife will be the first to look at it after you are married. And she will love it.

  1. Texts on the palm or forearm

You can get entire texts written on your palm or on your forearm. Yes, the way women get tattoos on their sides or on their backs. You could have a shloka written if you have a favourite one. Or you could go for a lovely message for your bride. You can even get something funny but sweet written for her so that when people take a sneak peek at it, they will laugh or smile when they have figured out what is written. It will be cool, and sweet of you to show love to your bride even when you already have her.

  1. Tribal art

This is the best type of mehndi or tattoo design for the wild child. You may already have tribal art tattoos. Go for a complementary design if it is in a visible area. If you have no tattoos, don’t sweat it. You can get a temporary one in the form of a mehndi. Get a design that signifies love and family and get it on both of your arms. Not the same design on both arms, get each half on either arm so that when you put your hands together, it completes the story. These were some groom mehndi design ideas that you just cannot go wrong with. Mehndi for groom can be really good looking if done right. So, choose a design now!

Get hold of these Awesome Bengali Wedding Rituals

Bengalis are proud of their deep-rooted culture and traditional practices. No matter how many Bengalis go to USA or UK to study or even to settle down, when it comes to festivals and ceremonies, they do it the traditional Bengali way.

A Bengali wedding is a spectacle. If you have ever attended one, you must already know how colourful everything is. Bengalis are loud and always happy. The Bengali bride is all smiles and hardly coy anymore. But you must know that what you have witnessed, is only about one- third of the entire Bengali marriage rituals that are performed.

Elaborate Bengali Wedding Rituals

Bengali weddings are an elaborate affair because apart from the few Bengalis who choose to just get the registry done and exchange the garland and follow the sindoor ritual at a temple, Bengalis are all about following the rules perfectly. They believe anything going wrong during any of the rituals like Haldi Ceremony etc., would bring bad luck upon the new couple.

The Bengali ashirwad ceremony, for example, involves the elders blessing the bride and the groom. No matter how big the family, everybody blesses the bride and the groom while they are in their semi wedding attires.

Each ritual in the Bengali wedding is unique in itself. The pre-wedding rituals itself are as long as the wedding. They span days. Here are all the pre wedding rituals of a typical Bengali marriage, explained. The fun part is, nowadays a lot of them are customised to suit the convenience of the bride and the groom and their families.

The Pre Wedding Rituals

The wedding rituals for Bengalis start days before the wedding. There are numerous pre wedding rituals that are followed. Traditionally, these rituals existed because the bride and groom did not even know each other before their wedding. So the families had to come together to decide upon the terms of the wedding and get to know each others’ families. Though that reason is obsolete today for most Bengalis, the rituals stuck.

Paka dekha

Though there is no engagement as such in traditional Bengali weddings, it has become a trend to have an engagement ceremony nowadays. But the traditional way is the ‘Paka Dekha’ way. It literally translates to ‘final meet’. It is basically the official engagement.

It is the final meet that settles that this is it. It is an official declaration by the families promising to stay put on their decisions to get their daughter and son married to each other. It is also called Pati Potro by the Bengalis of Bangladeshi origin.

The families meet and there are delectable refreshments. The elders decide upon the terms of the wedding. Modern day Bengalis leave dowry out of the discussion but if people are to exchange gifts, they put their offers in words on this meet. Apart from that, the usual terms of the marriage depending on what the bride wants or the groom wants from their new families, are discussed on this day.

Since many Bengalis marry their own friends or partners nowadays, all these discussions are obsolete. The families get straight to discussions about the wedding date and the decorations and have some chat therein. It is all fun and games. The very tedious affair of the yesteryears has become a day of fun and frolic where there are refreshments, and even games played to break the ice between the two families.

Aiburo Bhaat

This is a bridal shower or groom shower in a way. It officially happens just a day before the wedding. The bride and the groom have their last lunch as a spinster and bachelor, at their respective homes. The meal is a grand feast with many items on the menu. A lot of the items on the menu is a must and the rest is what the family chooses to make according to the bride’s choice or groom’s choice.

Gifts are given to the bride and the groom by their own relatives. This day does not involve the family of the partner to be. It is all about spending that one last day with your own family before the responsibilities of another person and his or her family gets tied to your life.

Though traditionally Aiburo bhaat is supposed to be the lunch right before the wedding day, Bengalis are flexible enough to change that. There are a lot of arrangements to be done the day before the wedding a well as for the wedding day. All the closest family members and relatives are super busy. This is why the aiburo bhaat often takes place on a holiday close before the wedding, maybe even a week earlier.

Also, it is not necessarily hosted by the groom or bride’s own family. It can be hosted by any close relative, maybe a paternal aunt or a maternal aunt. These adjustments are all done to make things easier on the bride and groom’s families because they already have a lot going on.

The Aiburo bhaat ceremony is just about a grand feast and some gifts. So it is a day of fun. Though a lot of emotions are involved, especially if the bride and groom are to move to a different city or country after marriage. It is literally the last sure meal that the family gets to treat their child with. The elders bless the bride and groom for their pending nuptials with some gifts.

Birdhi Pujo

The father of the bride and groom, or any close male member in the absence of the father, performs a Pooja at their own home. Prayers are offered to the ancestors of the family, so that they would bless the wedding. Though the Bengali Ashirwad ceremony is what happens right during the wedding, there are numerous ceremonies where the blessings of the elders and ancestors are prayed for.

Sankha Porano

A close married female relative puts conch shell bangles and red coral bangles on the bride’s wrists on the wedding eve. The Sankha and Pola are to be worn by the bride for the rest of her married life. Of course, many Bengali women do not follow these traditions anymore after 10 days from the wedding, but many still do.

Jol Sowa

This is done on the wedding day but is still a pre wedding ritual. The mothers of the bride and groom, along with some more married women, go to a nearby pond or holy river to fetch water for the bride and groom to bathe in after the haldi ritual. This makes for precious wedding moments to be added to your wedding day.

Dodhi Mangal

The bride and groom are fed sweet curd, banana, sweets, and rice flakes or ‘cheere’ before the wedding. Traditionally this is the only meal the bride and groom get to have until their wedding is over. But again, there are enough cousins to sneak in a treat for the bride or groom while they get ready. Many ominous brides and grooms avoid it anyway because it is supposed to be bad luck.

Gaaye Holud

This is the haldi ceremony. The groom’s family takes the responsibility for it. Fresh turmeric is ground and mixed with mustard oil. It is applied on the groom and the close female family members starting with his mother. The formal wedding gifts for the bride, or ‘tottwo’, along with a whole Rui maach, yes there is the Bengali trademark, is sent in creatively wrapped trays to the bride’s house along with the leftover turmeric paste in a silver bowl.

It is not exactly just the leftovers, there is enough for the bride and her female family members. The bride is smeared in haldi and so is her mother and other female members. It is basically fun. After the haldi, both the bride and the groom are bathed in the water fetched from Jol sowa.

The wedding rituals follow. The pre-wedding rituals take all morning, and even extend into the afternoon if things are delayed by any family. After the whole pre-wedding deal is over, the wedding rituals begin.

The bor jatri and boron,  that is the grand arrival of the groom and the grand welcome by the bride’s family. This itself is an elaborate process and the wedding does not start until this boron is done, followed by the Bengali Ashirwad Ceremony.

The ashirwad process if long because every close family member of the bride blesses the groom with gifts or cash, one by one, and feeds him a bit of sweet. The bride too is blessed with expensive gifts from the groom’s family members. This happens simultaneously. The boron and the ashirwad often take place at the bride’s house before they set out to the wedding venue for the wedding.

These are just the pre wedding rituals. So, you can imagine how elaborate the Bengali marriage rituals are. The wedding is as elaborate as the pre wedding rituals, with the Ashirwad ceremony being the bridge between the two followed by some post wedding rituals as well.
