Himachal Pradesh is rich in timber, especially strong and long-lasting is used as building materials. The Finest wood - deodar that lasts for 100 years in water has been used in building the cottage and the style of building is 'Kathkuni' or 'Kathkundi' which is unique to this region .
The system of construction is a mesh of interlocking horizontal deodar sleepers. Rock and earth have been used as usual fillers and some use of pounded earth. A singular characteristic is the absence of vertical members. With inherent elasticity, the design has an enormous seismic response.
