D’Anjung Inn – Our Basecamp for Gunung Ledang We, three of us, stayed here before and after our Ledang Hiking Expedition — using this cosy inn in Tangkak as both our starting and recovery point. From the outside, D’Anjung Inn looks more like a traditional kampung lodge than a budget hotel. Its red-tiled roofs, carved wooden eaves, arched entrances, and proud display of Malaysian flags give it a warm, local character. Parking is right in front of the rooms, and there’s a shaded “Laman Angsana” area that doubles as covered parking and a social space. Check-in was straightforward at the small reception — 2 pm in, 12 pm out — handled by friendly staff who keep the process simple. Our family-style room was functional and spacious, with two queen beds, air-conditioning, a TV, kettle, mini fridge, and basic furnishings. It wasn’t luxury, but it had everything we needed for a comfortable night before tackling the mountain and for resting sore muscles after. In the room, our gear spilled across the beds: North Face daypack, trekking poles, knee support, bottles of water, salt candies, raisins, haw flakes, and assorted snacks for the trail. It was the unmistakable sight of hikers in prep mode. One wall in the inn featured a colourful map of Tangkak’s highlights — from Air Terjun Gunung Ledang (15.5 km) and Taman Negara Gunung Ledang (14 km) to local food stops like Mee Bandung JKR, Asam Pedas Ikan Bakar, and Pak Maan Western. The map was a reminder that Tangkak isn’t just a gateway to Ledang; it’s also home to a surprising mix of food and cultural stops. Evenings here were peaceful. Sitting under the shaded verandah, watching the golden sunset light spill across the car park, we felt the quiet excitement of the climb ahead on our first night, and the satisfaction of completion on our return. D’Anjung Inn may be simple, but for hikers, it’s exactly what you need — affordable, convenient, and close to both the mountain and the town’s best eats.
