Highly recommended hotel in a superb location in the heart of the colonial district of George Town. As the hotel is in Little India, opposite the famous Sri Mahamariamman temple, you'll not be in any difficulty finding somewhere to grab a bite. Considering the higher prices of most hotels in the heart of George Town this provides good value for money. Although the entrance is rather ugly and dirty (rubbish discarded around the ground floor sign and in the entrance corridor) and a dodgy looking lift, once you enter your room you'll be pleasantly surprised. My room consisted of two queen sized beds (I was travelling solo), was spacious and modern, contained a decent ensuite bathroom, had lots of storage space and was overall clean. The air con and wifi was effective, and with a TV and kettle all my basic needs were met. Also, really quiet. Only gripe was one of the towels (out of two) was revoltingly dirty (brown in places!); I can't fathom how they could leave this utterly dirty and stained towel for a new guest!!! Wati, the night receptionist, was lovely: friendly and always with a smile. When I first checked in there was some confusion wether my booking (via booking.com) had paid the obligatory tourist tax—I wasn't sure, just assumed all taxes/charges were included in what I paid booking.com. As I was staying 15 nights I ended up having to pay in cash RM150 (£27), only to discover the next day my booking.com email confirmation said the tourist tax was included in the price I paid. When I mentioned this to reception the next day they immediately refunded me the RM150 tourist tax: however, I feel the hotel should know whether a foreign tourist has already paid the tourist tax when booking via one of the big hotel booking companies. If I hadn't properly checked my email confirmation I would have ended up paying the tourist tax twice (over £50!)!
