Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of India. It is a coastal town located in Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari has it all including seashores, hills, paddy fields, valleys, plains and coconut trees. Also known as the Bhagavathi Amman temple or the Kumari Amman temple, the Kanyakumari temple is a holy shrine for Hindus and is popular among tourists. Surrounded on all sides by the Lakshadweep Sea, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial is an iconic monument of the city. It was used as a place of meditation by the great philosopher Swami Vivekananda. It can be reached by means of a boat or ferry and has an attached meditation hall for visitors.
The statue of Thiruvalluvar, a great Tamil poet from India is also located in Kanyakumari. It is 133 feet tall and is one of the largest in the subcontinent, having been built by over 500 sculptors. The Kanyakumari beach is a perfect get-away for a vacation as it is not overcrowded like most beaches in the country. It offers a beautiful view of the setting sun and a white sandy stretch for long walks.
The place serves authentic South Indian cuisine with coconut and seafood as ingredients in most dishes. From Amritsar, travel to the capital city of Delhi via Chandigarh after visiting the rock museum there.
