On 22nd August, Chennai, which was erstwhile known as Madras, will complete 380 years since its inception. The day marks the grand event when the British East India Company signed the purchase order for the villages of Madraspatnam and Chennapatnam from Damarla Venkatadri Nayaka, the Viceroy of the Vijaynagar Empire.
