#Summer is Coming

The World is a Book, and those who do not travel read only one page

Taking a cue from this remark by Augustine of Hippo, today’s millennials are re-exploring the choices of travel. Since the generation is unfettered by inhibitions they are charting out itineraries that break the traditional way of travelling. We are witnessing a healthy increase in the way people are travelling and hence the Q1 travel booking index released by OYO Hotels & Homes, South Asia’s largest, China’s 2nd largest, and the world’s 6th largest and fastest-growing chain of leased and franchised hotels, homes & living spaces highlights how Indians planned their travel for the upcoming summer break.

Goa Received Maximum Traction, says OYO Summer Index

Driven by the availability of hands-on internet and a search for travel options there has been a positive increase in the overall booking which highlights Indian’s preference for an advance booking ahead of holidays. Out of the trending destinations, Goa, Delhi, and Bengaluru emerged as the top booked destinations where Goa received the maximum traction from Bengaluru and Pune where maximum bookings were made by couples (58.4%) followed by families (28.3%). Since travellers expect a brand to deliver a great mobile experience, bookings on the OYO app were 28.8 times of desktop showcasing the growing preference of Indians to use an app to make bookings against other channels. Millennials and families now want to explore and are rather in search of offbeat non-commercial destinations instead of conventional exploring. This index puts Coorg right on top of being the most booked city amongst other top contenders like Chail, Almora, Alwar, Chikmagalur, Coorg, Yercaud with a 159% increase in bookings vis-a-vis last year. This result shows the hidden wanderlust in families as well as solo travellers and their search for unexplored places. It further reflects a couple’s preference for exploring offbeat immersive experience and places which are rich in scenic landscape having great weather. While travelling people tightly hold on to their wallets, the estimate reveals the budget category hotels as their preferred choice for accommodation. OYO Summer Booking Index also throws light on consumer behaviour and trends in the international markets where Kuala-Lumpur, Jakarta, and Kathmandu registered maximum bookings in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Nepal respectively. Nepal too recorded a 220.8% increase in bookings in comparison to last year.

Packing one’s bags and making a dash for a destination summer vacation with family and friends have been an intrinsic part of everyone’s lives growing up. It almost comes as an epiphany when people dread the Indian summers and venture to beat the heat. Hence, at OYO Hotels and Homes, we value and understand the need for affordable, good quality travel accommodation options and are constantly working towards making their stay comfortable and hassle-free at affordable prices across the country.
