Delhi, being the political capital of India, can often get quite hectic and it feels good once in a while to go out family for picnics. While it might not always be possible to go for long vacations, one can definitely find sometime out to go for weekend getaways or even a daytrip from time to time and there are quite a few spots in and around Delhi which will provide the ideal spot. Here are some of the picnic spots near Delhi to try out:
Nehru Park is really like a breath of fresh air in the congested city of Delhi. The park is spread over 80 acres and it is located in the Panchsheel area and you will be soon mesmerized by the greenery of the park once you get here. The spring season sees a riot of colors as the flowers start to bloom and there is also a great snacks bar where you can sit and enjoy.

While it seems quite impossible, there really is such a park in the very heart of Delhi and it is often referred to as the “lungs of Delhi”. The park is a paradise for animal lovers and one can spot quite a variety of deer here, which is very exciting for the children. There are green lawns to sit around and you will love the landscaping around. The birds constantly chirp from the nearby trees and it makes for a heavenly surrounding.

The magnificent India Gate is a sight to behold in itself and the lawns around are the perfect spot for a day picnic. There are a lot of entertainments options here like enjoying pony and camel rides, going on small rides and swings and of course, gorge on great snacks sold by the vendors. The area here is comparatively free from traffic so it is very relaxing.

Delhi winters will not seem so harsh and cold once you have visited the National Rose Garden. The best time to visit is during the months of December to January and you can hear migratory birds chirping from the trees. You will be wonderstruck by the sheer variety of roses that are on display here and they are curated from all parts of the world. It is a rare sight and those who love plants and flowers keep coming back year after year.

There can be nothing better than spending the day at the zoo and even adults become like children when they are here. The zoo in Delhi was opened in 1959 and since then it has always received its fair share of visitors. There are all kinds of large cats to tiny birds and also reptiles and some aquatic animals to be seen here. You will find the day goes by in a whiff when you are here.

If you want to spend a quiet and peaceful day with the family, then you have to go to Lodhi Gardens. It is a most beautifully maintained tomb and monument and the surroundings here are a real treat for the eyes. As the name suggests, the gardens were established during the Lodhi dynasty and the monument is one of the most striking architectural wonders of the city. The tombs have been beautifully maintained over the years and although located in the heart of the city, it has none of the traffic chaos when you walk inside. This makes for a great location for a picnic spot inside Delhi.

It might be quite striking to find out that there is a wildlife sanctuary just on the southern borders of Delhi but it is one of the best getaways for the city people. You will see nature in all its glory here, with birds chirping and all kinds of flowers blooming. There are as many as five lakes in the garden and so it is great place to visit even during summers as you will enjoy coolness and freshness here. Carry your own meal packs with you and you have the perfect location for a picnic.

Badhkal Lake is located near Faridabad which is 32 km from Delhi and if you have some time on your hands, you can visit this place for a wonderful weekend getaway. This place is actually a very popular spot among the residents of Delhi. The lake is a favorite haunt for migratory birds during the winters and the scenic locale of the place will simply leave you speechless. You can see small hills in the distance and the drive leading up to the park is also quite captivating because of the views.

This beautiful and scenic spot is a favorite both among the residents of Delhi as well as the people of Gurgaon. You will be able to relax in the beautiful garden with the distant view of the Aravalli Hills in the background. There is also provision for enjoying boating in the lake or you could simply opt for bird watching. The best thing is that there are a number of resorts adjoining the lake and so once you are done you can simply get out and enjoy a great lunch with your family.

Camp Wild Dhauj is a great place for adventure lovers and it is located near the region of Faridabad. Although 60 km from Delhi, the road trip to this beautiful locality is an amazing experience. There are plenty eco- lodges here as well and you will be able to indulge in a number of activities like camping and rock climbing. You will also find a wide range of flora and fauna ready to greet you. It is apt for a day picnic near Delhi.

If you cannot get enough of birds, then this sanctuary is the place for you. The sanctuary is located about 40 km away from the city of Delhi and people come here in throngs to see the various migratory birds at play here. The tourists are also advised to keep the park clean and plastic- free. It is a great way to enjoy the winder sun and soak in the beauty of nature and would be a great locale for a picnic.

This 30 acre park is all that you want in a picnic location and you will find it to be a great place to adventure and camp. You can spend the day enjoying long nature walks and also visit the adjoining farm. There are also provisions for adventure sports and if you are going there for the summers, do not fail to take a refreshing dip in the pool. You will not find a lovelier blend of adventure and camping anywhere else.

The Kaladeo National Park was formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and it boasts of 230 species of birds within its premises. It is a World Heritage Site which is located in Bharatpur, which is about 180 km from Delhi. You will find that it is a great place to enjoy picnics as you will enjoy the serenity of the wild and yet find a great place to have a picnic. It is a most popular location to be in during the winters.

Located in Alwar, this palace situated within a lake is a popular tourist spot and a great place to enjoy a long drive. It takes around three hours to get there by road and your day trip or picnic will be amidst a historical location. The palace itself was built by Maharaja Vinay Singh in 1845 and it is still very beautifully maintained today. The landscaped grounds around here are beautiful and you will find yourself one with nature. You can see the Aravalli Hills in the distance and also visit the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary on your way as it is only a short way from there.

Manesar is located about 45 km from Delhi and this serene village happens to be a great getaway. There are quite a few places of sightseeing here like the Heritage Transport Museum, and you can stay at the Manesar heritage Village Resort which will give you a taste of authentic Rajasthani culture. Your stay here will be as good as getting a royal treatment.
