The Jagannath Temple situated near Tribal Museum, Koraput, is one of the ancient Jagannath temples in Orissa. This temple is considered to inhabit Jagannath’s consciousness. The temple stands on a hill top that is called the Sabara Srikhsetra. A tribal festival, identified as ‘Parab’ is organized by UNICEF and it takes place every year.
The tribal museum is situated just behind the Jagannath Temple in Koraput. It showcases a huge collection of costumes and beautiful hand woven clothes along with musical instruments. This attracts tourists and promotes the local culture and heritage of the tribals at the same time.
Balda Cave is one of the sought after places in Koraput, exactly situated in the range of 66 Km from Koraput. This beautiful cave in the mountains is one sight that you would not want to miss. There is also a reservoir situated here called Jalapat which is vast and breathtaking in its design. Located 3 km from the Duduma water fall, this small village named Onukadelli has aptly captured the interest of foreign tourists in particular for its market that runs on a weekly basis only on Thursdays when the Neolithic tribe of the Bonda region arrives and buys goods before returning to their own inaccessible region.
The road trip designed from Vishakhapatnam to Koraput via Araku Valley is best suited during the month of February or March, when the climate is moderately favorable.
