The beaches of the sand are soft and warm and very calming to walk on. The beach is maintained by the APTDC, that the state tourism corporation of Andhra Pradesh. The Ram Krishna Beach is a very charming one and it named after the Ramkrishna Ashram that is located just a little way off the beach, on the Beach Road. People often go there to pay their respects. It is clean and beautiful beach and tourists and weekenders come here in heavy numbers. The RK Beach, as it is popularly known, also has quite a few attractions which entertain the visitors. The Submarine Museum cannot be missed and it is one of a kind indeed. Children find it fascinating to visit this museum, which is built in a submarine itself. It the first of its kind in South Asia. The Victory at Sea War Memorial also stands right on the beach and was constructed to commemorate the sailors who lost their lives in the Indo- Pakistan War of 1971. There are also provisions for engaging in sea sports here like water surfing, windsurfing, playing beach volleyball, boating and for the foodies, there are ample restaurants and beach side shacks to eat from.
The Bheemunipatam Beach, or Bheemili Beach, as it is popularly known, derives its name from Bheema, the second and the strongest brother of the Pandavas. The beach is located at the origin of the Gosthani River, by the fishing town of Bheemunipatam. It is considered to be the safest beach in Vizag and is great for swimming, even for youngsters. There are still a lot of remnants from the erstwhile British and Dutch remnants and they are a joy to explore. There is also a 17th-century fort nearby that is considered major attraction here and it is juxtaposed by the wonderfully thatched cottages. There is also a cemetery here belonging to the British era. There are ample opportunities to indulge in water sports here like water skiing, scuba diving, and snorkeling. As this beach is very safe, it is a wonderful spot to engage in swimming. The beach is located about 45 km away from the city and it takes about an hour to reach it, but the trip is totally worth it. The ride to the beach itself is in itself quite mesmerizing.
The Gangavaram Beach is definitely one of the more enchanting spots to visit in Vizag. The beach is relatively less crowded and so you can enjoy the sun and the sand without feeling rushed. The scenic beauty of the beach is well known which is why many shoots for movies and ads take place here regularly. However, in spite of being so beautiful, the beach is not safe for swimming and going into the waters is strictly prohibited here. You can however, lounge around and sunbathe, build sand castles and enjoy long walks. The Lawson’s Bay Beach is 22 km away from the main city and it is not a very crowded beach, which gives the traveler ample scope to explore and enjoy its beauties. The beach is picture- perfect and it is in fact, located very close to the Ram Krishna Beach. The waters here are crystal clear and the waves are warm and soothing, creating the perfect conditions for swimming. Surfing is also done here and many seasoned surfers visit this beach. And if you are someone who simply wants to relax, then just find a cozy spot and lay down with a good book as the world stops around and you take in all the beauty. The Sagar Nagar Beach is a lesser known beach in Vizag which has a charming and lovely shoreline, almost straight out of a fairytale. The beach is located quite a distance away from the crowded localities of the main city and there are many secluded spots, which makes the beach so attractive, especially for couples who want to spend some quality time away from prying eyes. The sea is not rough here and swimming is allowed, but going into the deep waters is strictly prohibited. The beach will make you fall in love with it because of its picaresque spots and photographers cannot seem to have enough of this place. What is so special about this beach that the waters here seem to take on a different color at different times of the day. The waters appear blue at noon and become turquoise in the evenings.
