When India got independence on 15th August 1947, all the inmates were freed by the government of India. Andaman was declared a Union Territory in 1950. There is a volcano in the Barren Island of the Andamans. The volcanic lava is erupted in this island from time to time. There are hundreds of islands still not explored.
