It's quite hard to figure out what this place is on the web as on the one hand it's a traditional pub with rooms and on the other it's hooked up to I guess a room booking site/app. Anyway - I found them very easy to deal with and accommodating when I contacted the owner direct, but I guess you can go either option. There is a small parking area at the hotel (which was good for me as I was travelling by motorbike and would normally avoid town centres for this reason). My room was actually in the main building and up a steepish staircase on the top floor. Mind your head when coming down (as me how I know!) It was small and on a hot day, quite warm. That's not meant to be overly critical - it's an historic building and similar places would be the same. Although very basic the room was in good nick and not neglected and I would say very fair value. Bathroom was a bit gloomy but was again clean, in good condition and had everything needed. One thing they could improve is that a cupboard with cleaning products etc was left open - looked messy and small things can change an overall impression. There was water provided in the room also. Staff and the owner were friendly and helpful at all times. Difficult to comment on evening food. The chef was out so one of the bar staff stepped in to make me something. Breakfast cooked by the owner was a very good English. It was noticeably better done and seasoned than many I ate that week. This was the least expensive place I stayed on my trip by some margin and based on that deserves a good rating based on value. If that's what you're after and you set expectations, you should be fine.
Enjoyed a stay here recently, was really impressed, the beds were extremely comfortable, the bathroom was great, all was lovely and clean, tea, coffee and even biscuits provided, no complaints, enjoyed a great value steak in the evening and the breakfast was one of the best I've had anywhere, the service was friendly and efficient, our particular room was at the top of very steep stairs so may not suit someone with mobility issues so apart from that I would certainly recommend the White Horse...
