Just a short walk from Durham Cathedral, the 11th-century castle, and the scenic River Wear, this hotel is ideal for solo travelers, couples, and culture seekers.
Each room is individually styled, blending period charm with modern touches.
Step outside and explore Durham’s cobbled streets, riverside paths, and university landmarks. Durham University Cricket Club is just 150 metres away, and Durham Train Station is under a mile, offering easy access to Newcastle city centre in just 15 minutes by train.
With private parking, a sun terrace, and a cosy bar, the hotel offers a relaxed base for exploring the city or unwinding after a day out.
Whether you''re visiting for a quiet solo retreat, a romantic escape, or a cultural weekend, OYO The Townhouse combines character, comfort, and convenience in one of England’s most charming university towns.

Charming Georgian building perfectly located in the city, nestled on a quiet street yet just a short stroll across the bridge to shops, bars, and cafes. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival by the lovely lady at reception and handed the keys to our Bijoux loft room. While it was a bit cozy (the name gives it away), it was just right for a short getaway as a couple. The room boasted a comfy Queen size bed, a wardrobe, a kettle, an electric fan, and a modern en suite with a walk-in shower. The decor was tasteful, and everything was spotless, plus we appreciated the air conditioning on that warm summer evening! There were two sash windows (which couldn’t be opened, but we didn’t mind) offering lovely views of Durham Cathedral in the distance, overlooking the city. There’s a delightful little bar next to the reception where we enjoyed a drink in the afternoon, and at the back of the property, there’s a restaurant and a quaint beer garden, although we didn’t take advantage of it during our stay.
