I actually didn't end up staying there because I found some bugs in the room. It seems to be a common thing for locals, as there were quite a few local guests, and the owner mentioned they have one clean room specifically for foreigners. Regardless, the staff was incredibly kind and really went out of their way to help me. He even introduced me to another hotel and took me to a restaurant on his motorbike. I ended up visiting the place frequently and enjoyed chatting and having drinks with the owner and the hotel staff.
