The news of her immolation angered Shiva so much that he went on a rampage and destroyed and burnt the palace of Daksha, his father in law and Parvathi’s father. Ultimately Daksha understood his folly and begged for forgiveness off Shiva. Shiva, who becomes pleased very easily with a slight effort, agreed to yield his anger and decided to stay there, where the temple is, forever. Daksha proclaimed Shiva as the biggest of all the gods. The temple was rebuilt in 1961 and the lingam was enshrined and consecrated. This legend or story is known to all in Kankhal Haridwar. One can reach Kankhal by bus or taxi or private vehicle via the National Highway. The nearest railway station from here is Haridwar Railway Station. Kankhal Haridwar is mentioned in the Puranas and the Mahabharat also though it had a different name then.
