This beach happens to be one of the most popular beaches in Alleppey, although it lies a little way off the city. It is the perfect beach for lazying around and there isn’t a lot of noise either. Those who come here mostly do so for the beauty so the crowd is not raucous. The beach is miles of golden sand and is surrounded by palm trees. Also, there are a number of hammocks by the beach and the tourists can simply relax there. This is an island beach and naturally, you will be mesmerized by the beauty here. You can take a ferry and go to the island and then come back after sunset. Carry your own food though, because there isn’t much available on the island. The island is located in Alappuzha.

Located in the south of Alleppey, this beach is perfect if you want to take a walk. The palm trees and the black sand of the beach make for a unique combination. Also known as the Papanasham Beach, this beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of the state. The beach is adjacent to the Arabian Sea and the cliffs here especially noteworthy. They are of tertiary sedimentary formation and are known as the Varkala rock formation. According to Geological Survey of India, they are a geological monument. One of the most famous attractions of the beach is the 10 day long festival held at the Janardhan Swami Temple, known as Arattu. The distance between Alleppey to Varkala is 117 km via NH 66 and makes for a great driving experience with beautiful scenery on all sides.
