The Rose Garden run by the Government is among the largest rose gardens in India and is situated on the Elk Hill slopes at Vijayanagaram in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. It is situated at a height of 2200 m and spread across 10 acres of land. The Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department maintains this garden. Formerly this park was known as Jayalalithaa Rose Garden, Centenary Rose Park and Nootrandu Roja Poonga. It was established in May 1995 to mark the Centenary celebration of the Flower Show at the Government’s Botanical Gardens, Udagamandalam. The garden is designed as five terrace curves arranged with flowers, and this covers four hectares of land.

This place is perfect for growing roses because of its tropical climate, less variation in temperature and uniform distribution of rain. It remains crowded by tourists year around. But during the peak flower peaking season that is from March to June, one can visit the flower show and can purchase saplings or bouquets. The garden has some unique collection of roses such as hybrid tea rose, miniature roses, ramblers, floribunda, green and black roses, etc and has one of the biggest collections in the country cultivating more than 20000 varieties. From Nila Maadam, a platform from where one can get a beautiful view of the garden.

This garden was honoured by World Federation of Rose Societies, and it is one of the 35 gardens to receive it., it received the Award for Garden of Excellence in the month of May 2006 as the finest South Asian rose garden in.
