Hotels in Ranjangaon to Experience the Divinity

Travel for religious purposes is quite common in India. People of all religions go on such journeys to connect with mythology, culture, and heritage. Many religious places are situated in far off rural places in India which are totally off the grid from the popular tourist map. One such place is Ranjangaon in Maharashtra.
Ranjangaon is a village in the MIDC Industrial Area of Maharashtra, located around 50 km from Pune city. It is famous for the celebrated Mahaganapati Shrine. This auspicious and worshipped Mahaganapati Shrine is one of the eight Ashtavinayaka Shrines in Maharashtra holds a place of great importance in the hearts and lives of the natives. Devotees flock here in thousands to pay their homage to the heavenly deity.
The legendary story of Mahaganapati is quite interesting. This was the first time, Lord Shiva sought blessings and help of his son Lord Ganapati for killing the vicious demon ‘Tripurasura.’ Lord Ganapati came to Lord Shiva’s aid in his full-blown avatar of 10 trunks! Due to this larger than life depiction of Godly valor, the idol is called ‘Mahaganapati’. This alluring temple was dedicatedly built by ‘Sardar Kine’ to show his staunch devotion. The great Peshwa Madhavrao built the Garbhagriha (main room holding idol) as well as the basement chamber to hide the idol during invasions.
Two wonderfully carved statues of Jay and Vijay guard the temple gate. The geometry of the temple is such, that during the time of Dakshinayan (sun in the southern hemisphere) the sun rays fall directly on the idol of Mahaganapati. In an age where there were no computers and high tech machines, the builders and architects were so precise about their calculations. Idols of Goddesses Ridhi and Siddhi are placed gracefully beside the main deity. By looking at the architecture of carved stone pillars, it is said that the temple belongs between the 9th and 10th Century A.D. MIDC Industrial Area also has large manufacturing units of companies like Whirlpool, LG, Fiat, Bombay Dyeing, Carraro, Maccaferri, and others.
On the drive from Pune to Ranjangaon, just about 10 km from the temple is Wageshwar temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Nestled beside a small pond, this temple is the place if you are seeking calmness. You can also visit Nighoj for its natural potholes; it is 40 km from Ranjangaon. Of course, while driving to your destinations, you can stop over at the local eateries and enjoy the native flavors. Don’t forget to try the famous vada pav and tandoori chai.
