Vaccination is the key to building trust and confidence among travellers. This is evident by some of the early trends seen with respect to bookings here at OYO US and UK. The latest trends indicate that travel will make a strong comeback as vaccination coverage increases across countries.
We are seeing higher bookings in the US and UK as the percentage of the vaccinated population rises. In the US, as the percentage of the population with at least 1 dose of vaccination grew from Jan’21 to Apr’21, OYO recorded a 60% increase in RevPAR from January 2021 to April 2021. This is further expected to grow by June ’21 with RevPAR in the month is expected to be 1.5x of June ’20. Similarly in the UK, OYO recorded a 70% increase in RevPAR from January 2021 to April 2021.
Vaccination against the virus is the single most crucial tool to fight COVID-19 and reopen a large part of the country’s economy, along with initiating the recovery of the impacted tourism and travel industry. In order to replicate similar strong recovery trends in India, we stand ready with multiple initiatives, including VaccinAid. In fact, OYO is the first app in the travel ecosystem to show the vaccine status of staff of its partner hotels. This vaccine visibility initiative is to drive awareness and social reinforcement among small and medium hotels and homes to get vaccinated against COVID-19. We have also organized vaccination camps for our hotel partners and OYOpreneurs.
As of 3rd June 2021, 59% of the population is vaccinated in the UK, and 51% of the population is vaccinated in the US (with at least one dose). With an increase in the vaccinated population, there is an easing of restrictions in both the countries along with an increase in local/domestic and international tourists.
In the US, all across the country, mask mandates are easing, restrictions are lifting, and many states have gone back to business as usual. Britain has also moved into Step 3 of its roadmap, including opening pubs and restaurants with indoor seating, as well as other hospitality venues.
We are certain that with your support, we will together overcome COVID-19 and build a resilient and resurgent OYO.
