OYO etches a significant milestone in Malaysia; adds 10,000+ rooms to its chain

Terima Kasih Malaysia!

We at OYO Hotels and Homes are humbled by the love we are receiving by the guests who chose to stay with us for a variety of reasons! Since opening our doors in Malaysia, we are witnessing consistent growth in the last three years, with a tremendous increase in the number of guests we continue to host across 300+ franchised and leased hotels in the country. In this short span of time, we have achieved a significant milestone of expanding our presence to 40+ cities in Malaysia while adding 10,000 exclusive keys to its chain of hotels in the country. This milestone reiterates our commitment to South East Asia and puts us on the road to become the largest hospitality chain in the world.

At OYO Hotels and Homes we strive to deliver exceptional quality living standards for consumers who expect a standardized and memorable experience with each stay. We have the passion and the urge to turbocharge the guest experience and tune into their needs to drive loyalty and increase repeat business. Saying this we have tripled the count of guests served in H1 of 2019 vis-à-vis 2018 as over 755,500+ guests experiencing the OYO hospitality in Malaysia. With our hotels spanning across 40+ cities and towns in Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Kelantan, Kuala Terengganu, Langkawi, Ipoh, Kota Bharu, Johor Bahru, and Malacca among others. With every new city and a new hotel across various locations in Malaysia, we bring chic hospitality experiences for each and every one. The inbound travellers who come to visit Malaysia include business travellers and young families and couples on leisure trips. Of these, the preferred OYO hotels are highly sought in Klang Valley suburbs and townships and smaller towns across the nation. Till date, we have received the highest number of bookings in Kulim (87%), Seri Kembangan (85%), Labuan (82%), and Puchong (79%) in less than a year.

To celebrate this milestone we also celebrated the first OYO Partners Meet 2019 held on August 21, 2019 where Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Haslina binti Abdul Hamid, Deputy Secretary-General Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia graced the occasion with her esteemed presence and applauded OYO’s rapidly growing footprints in the country by providing affordable and quality living spaces. We also recognized our top-performing outstanding OYO asset owners who have helped us establish our footprint in the country and grow over the years since inception. The event also saw us acknowledging hotel owners for their exceptional efforts to provide quality service to customers, and also commended hotels with strong sales performance for their tenure of operation.

On successfully completing 10,000 rooms milestone in Malaysia,  Tan Ming Luk, Country Head – OYO Malaysia, said, ‘’Our mission of creating quality living spaces has resonated strongly among travellers in Malaysia – both domestic and international. Our latest Malaysian milestone of 10,000 rooms follows in the wake of the exciting growth that we have recorded in the country in the past few months. We commenced our operations in Malaysia with sound knowledge of the country’s hospitality landscape and the huge opportunity it offers and is overwhelmed by the response received from both travellers and OYO hotel owners. While continuing to offer travellers an even wider selection of safe and comfortable accommodation options at highly affordable pricing, we look forward to our journey in the country. With a presence in 40 cities and towns across 13 states, we are fully committed to expanding our investment in Malaysia, empowering local hotel owners, and continuing our pursuit to provide high-quality, comfortable and affordable accommodation for all. I am very excited to celebrate this milestone with our asset owners and in the presence of Honourable Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Haslina binti Abdul Hamid, Deputy Secretary-General, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and Branavan Aruljothi – Senior Account Manager, Booking.com’’

He added, ‘’Since the very beginning, we are very persistent in bringing the best OYO experience to Malaysian and global travellers. Our growth has been exemplary in every form and reflects a great market response to our presence in the country. We are supremely committed to empowering Malaysian asset owners. We work in close proximity with them while supporting them with every aspect of hospitality. We will continue to deepen and widen our presence in the country in the coming months.’’

We are on a mission to create quality living spaces and make it accessible and affordable for millions of our customers and we couldn’t imagine doing this without the active support and encouragement from our asset owner partners. We place immense support in our asset owners by helping them increase the occupancy of their hotels while delivering quality-assured and standardized stay for guests. OYO Hotels and Homes have emerged as the next colossal opportunity in Malaysia by utilizing our tech capabilities, operations, onboarding, and transformational capabilities thereby creating an equilibrium between these factors. We will continue to revolutionise the country’s hospitality landscape which is characterized by a demand-supply imbalance of quality living spaces.

All said and done, we are motivated to keep establishing ourselves in newer geographies and making every city an OYO City!
