The city of Amritsar was founded by Guru Ramdas in the 16th century. The land was bought from some owners and some chunk of land was donated by the rulers of the place. The temple has a door each on the East, West, North and South. The main structure of Harmandir Sahib is three-storied with each story having a special purpose.
