Day 1: Arrive Christchurch
Welcome to New Zealand! On arrival at Christchurch Airport meet our RLT Tour Manager and get transferred to your hotel. Enjoy your day before a Welcome Reception and dinner with the Roads less Travelled Tour Manager.
Day 2: Christchurch – Franz Josef
Have a hearty breakfast this morning and board the award-winning TranzAlpine train, as it takes you on one of the top six train journeys in the world, across the marvellous Canterbury Plains and through the amazing Southern Alps to Arthur’s Pass. Later, visit Hokitika home of the native greenstone (jade) for an exotic factory visit and jewellery demonstration. Your next stop is Franz Josef Glacier, which is a rare, still advancing glacier. Overnight stay at Franz Josef.

Day 3: Franz Josef – Queenstown
Today after breakfast, travel with RLT Tour Manager through the Haast Pass, and get an amazing view at the Thunder Creek Falls and take a rainforest walk. Then it’s a must see trio of lakes – Wanaka, Hawea, Dunstan. Next up try some sumptuous stone fruit at Cromwell, the stone fruit capital. Later, visit the historic gold mining Arrowtown on the Arrow River, one of the world’s richest rivers and try your luck fishing out some gold. Arrive in Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure-capital for an orientation tour. Overnight stay at Queenstown.
Day 4: Queenstown
Day at leisure. This morning get set to explore exciting Queenstown all day. From wine and garden tours to jet boat rides and white water rafting, Queenstown will surprise you in every way.
Ask our RLT Tour Manager to provide you with options to have an enjoyable day. In the evening, cruise across the magical Lake Wakatipu aboard New Zealand’s oldest steamship, the TSS Earnslaw, to Walter Peak Station for an exotic delicious Highlight Dinner at the Colonel’s Homestead. An entertaining after-dinner farm show provides a glimpse into high-country farm life.

Day 5: Queenstown – Te Anau
Travel along the Devil’s Staircase and the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau. You’ll be awe-struck by the great sights from Fiordland National Park, New Zealand’s largest, to Milford Sound, one of the world’s most amazing places, where you’ll cruise on the waters of this natural wonder. En route you’ll drive through the handmade Homer Tunnel to the abundant photo opportunities afforded by the Mirror Lake, Pop’s Lookout, Cleddau Valley, the Chasm, Mitre Peak and Bowen Falls. Then return to Te Anau. Overnight stay at Te Anau.

Day 6: Te Anau – Dunedin
Today you cross sheep-filled farming land to the amazing city of Dunedin with our RLT Manager for a city tour. You are free to explore the city by yourself; consider a wildlife cruise to see the Penguins and Royal Albatross, a visit the Cadbury Factory or ride the Taieri Gorge Railway. Overnight stay at Dunedin.
Day 7: Dunedin – Omarama
After breakfast visit the historical Larnach Castle, New Zealand’s only castle. Travel through Oamaru, famous for its exotic limestone buildings, passing the Waitaki Hydro Power Scheme and the Benmore Dam on your way to Omarama. Overnight stay at Omarama.
Day 8: Omarama – Christchurch
After a hearty breakfast this morning, get set to soak up the scenery of Mt. Cook National Park (optional scenic flight available). See the amazing Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo, visit the Church of the Good Shepherd and travel across the serene Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. Overnight stay at Christchurch.
Day 9: Christchurch – Picton
Today let our RLT Tour Manager take you along the rugged Pacific Ocean coast to Kaikoura, famous for its gigantic whales (optional whale watching flight available). Get up close and personal with some New Zealand fur seals at Ohau Point. Pass the Grassmere Salt Works then travel to the beautiful seaside fishing village of Picton for an orientation tour. Overnight stay at Picton.
Day 10: Picton – Wellington
Cruise on Queen Charlotte Sound and across Cook Strait to Wellington for a city tour before ‘Free Time’ and then you’ll visit Te Papa, the Museum of New Zealand, where you’ll have time to explore New Zealand’s nature, art, history and cultural heritage. Overnight stay at Wellington.
Day 11: Wellington – Rotorua
Today travel along the captivating Kapiti Coast, past the dairy farms of Manawatu to Tongariro National Park and discover the alpine scenery of Mt. Ruapehu. Visit Taupo and drive along the shores of New Zealand’s largest lake. View the amazing Huka Falls and pass the Wairakei Geothermal Power Station. Tonight enjoy a traditional Maori Hangi feast and concert and sneak a peek inside Maori culture. Overnight stay at Rotorua.
Day 12: Rotorua
Visit the Agrodome Sheep Show, the many time award- winning stage show, for a sample of farm life where you’ll gain an exciting and informative insight into agriculture in New Zealand. See the art of sheep shearing, sheepdog demonstrations, cow milking, bottle feeding of lambs and an exciting sheep auction. Then enjoy an afternoon of ‘Free Time’ – perhaps visit Rainbow Springs, abundant with Rainbow Trout and native fauna including the kiwi, or Te Puia, where a local Maori will guide you through the geothermal valley with its mud pools and geysers. Overnight stay at Rotorua.

Experience farm life first-hand. Enjoy genuine New Zealand hospitality this evening and spend the night with a local family on a nearby farm, including dinner. Additional charges apply.
Day 13: Rotorua – Auckland
After breakfast, travel through the lush Waikato farmland to Waitomo Caves. See the amazing underground Glow Worm Grotto by boat and walk through the amazing limestone caves. Later follow the Waikato River, New Zealand’s longest river, into Auckland. Enjoy the enchanting views from Mt. Eden before you continue to your hotel. This evening celebrate the culmination of your holiday at a Farewell Dinner with RLT Tour Manager. Overnight stay at Auckland.
Day 14: Alas! Its time to go home- Depart Auckland
This morning after breakfast bid goodbyes to the amazing country and our RLT Tour Manager. You’ll be transferred to Auckland Airport for your onward flight. Leave the country, only to be back on another unique RLT Tour & more amazing memories.
