Start with Australia’s capital, Canberra, a fantastic base from which to explore the many treasures of the surrounding region. Explore historic townships, natural wonders, beautiful coastlines and the famous Snowy Mountains. En route to the culturally diverse and cosmopolitan Melbourne, visit Mt. DAY 01:

Sydney – Canberra

WELCOME to the country of Koalas and Kangaroos! Meet our RLT Tour Representative at the Sydney airport and get ready for your journey to the nation’s capital, Canberra, via the Southern Highlands. Stop at historic Berrima, famous for its colonial prison & craft galleries. Visit Gold Creek Station, a working pastoral property in the Canberra region, where you’ll have a Welcome Reception and an Aussie barbecue lunch waiting for you. The sheep farm currently houses merino sheep and beef cattle. Arrive in Canberra city and tour through Parliament House with a local Guide. Then visit the Australian War Memorial before enjoying dinner with RLT Tour Representative. Overnight stay at Canberra.

Day 2:

Canberra – Beechworth

The drive from Canberra to Beechworth is laden with travellers’ delights. Roughly 115km down, you will visit Cooma and the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme, which is a state-of-the-art visitor facility showcasing the history of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, from the early days of construction through to how it is operated by Snowy Hydro today. After, Cooma, proceed for stunningly picturesque Kosciuszko National Park – home to mobs of kangaroos – as you travel the Alpine Way. Later pass the mighty Murray River as you enter Victoria and beautiful Beechworth, Victoria’s best preserved gold rush town, for an overnight stay in one of the Bed and Breakfast properties. Day 3:

Beechworth – Melbourne

Get to know Beechworth with a tour and some free time. Explore the legendary Beechworth Bakery with its fresh pastries and sweets, as well as the antique shops and galleries. Later you’ll see the museum then it’s on through Glenrowan and Ned Kelly country to culturally diverse and cosmopolitan Melbourne. Your evening is at leisure in Melbourne. Perhaps take a relaxing walk to Southbank for a stroll along the Yarra River, the ancient waterway that continues to nourish and define the city. Overnight stay at Melbourne. australia-beaches

Day 4:


Today, the day is at your disposal to explore Melbourne and discover some of the secrets of this exceptional city – a myriad of cafés, galleries, museums, markets, restaurants, laneways and parks await you. If you wish to explore further afield you can join a tour to the famous Penguin Parade on Phillip Island, where you’ll watch the nightly ritual as the little penguins march up the sand to their nesting places. Or take the journey along the Great Ocean Road to see the famous Twelve Apostles. Visit the Yarra Valley’s wineries, the Dandenongs and Puffing Billy or Sovereign Hill’s goldmine. Pat a koala, hand feed albino kangaroos, walk with the dingoes, talk to the parrots, meet a golden possum and get all wrapped up in a three meter python at Maru Koala & Animal Park. Travel through the town of San Remo and cross the bridge to Phillip Island. See the Nobbies rock formation overlooking one of the most treacherous expanses of water in the world, Bass Strait. Watch the famous Little Penguins perform their nightly ritual at Summerland Beach as they march up the sand to their nesting places.
Drive through lovely Ferntree Gully to the Dandenong Ranges and Grant’s Reserve. Enjoy Billy Tea with home-made lamingtons and Aussie Vegemite. Feed the Crimson Rosella birds in the mountain ash tall forest. Ride on Puffing Billy, Australia’s oldest operating steam train, through the spectacular rainforest of tall mountain ash, eucalypts and fern-filled gullies. Arrive at Rochford Wines and enjoy a delicious spit roast lunch with wine tasting and tea/coffee. Visit two more wineries for tasting, appreciation and education. The wineries may be Fergusson Winery, Dominique Portet, Domaine Chandon or others. The Yarra Valley is Victoria’s premium wine region with its rolling green hills overlooking the Great Dividing Range.
Admire panoramic views of the Melbourne city skyline. Travel along Victoria’s famous Great Ocean Road. Drive through the beautiful coastal towns of Anglesea, Lorne and Wye River. See spectacular Cape Patton. Arrive at the beautiful white sandy beaches of the scenic coastal town of Apollo Bay for lunch. Drive through lush tree-fern gullies and towering mountain-ash forests of the Otway National Park. See the stone monoliths of the Twelve Apostles. Soak up the spectacle on a scenic walk to the lookouts. Enjoy the amazing shipwreck story of survival of the Loch Ard and visit its famous Gorge and Razorback Lookout. Stop at Port Campbell for afternoon tea (own expense). See the rock known as London Bridge, parts of which collapsed in recent years. Relax on your return journey to Melbourne. Overnight stay at Melbourne.

Day 5:

Depart Melbourne

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Melbourne Airport for your onward flight home. Bid goodbyes to the beautiful country and our RLT Tour Representative.
