A view of a peaceful lake, dense greenery all around you, and the call of exotic birds to wake you in the morning. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? It’s not. Say hello to OYOxDesign’s newest villa in Carambolim, Goa.
Built in 1998, this 3 BHK villa is the closest house to Carambolim Lake. So when you step into the balcony, you get a front row seat to the theatre of nature. Since this area is an important birdwatching point, the land on which this villa is built comes under the Forest and Wildlife Department. This ensures that construction in this area is strictly regulated, making it the perfect spot for a peaceful holiday.
The view of the Carambolim lake is one of the many advantages of this villa. So we created several spots from where you can enjoy this spectacular sight. The terrace of the villa has comfortable chairs and a swing so that you can lounge there for hours. Apart from the terrace, a green area was created on the first floor, taking inspiration from the view. This extends into a balcony to become the ideal spot for a peaceful morning coffee before everyone else wakes up.
Apart from gazing at the view, there are several other things to do in this house. On the ground floor, two individual swings offer a comforting spot for soulful conversations or solo moments of silence.
In contrast to this tranquility, there is a “gaming area” which is meant for you to create ruckus. Play a round of games at the challenging Krida table, OYO’s in-house creation. It doesn’t matter if you lose a game or need a break. Lounge around on the floor cushions and join in the fun as the others play.
Besides the common areas, there are large windows from the ceiling to the floor in several corners and rooms of this house. Choose any one to enjoy the view by yourself, read a good book, or take a nap while listening to the sound of birds chirping.
To ensure that you don’t feel disconnected from all the natural beauty around this villa, the decor inside was created as an extension of the outdoors. The subtle floral elements around the house are an instant source of joy. Some of these elements are also reminiscent of the old English decor seen in many colonial-era homes.
The leafy chandelier on the ground floor is a decor element that runs across the levels of this house. The lighting bears down on this piece from the first floor all the way down to the ground floor.
If you’re travelling in a big group, this villa is the perfect size for you. With several spacious common areas, you can hang out in a different spot every day. While the ground floor has a large open space and a dining area, the first floor has a living room with a TV and DTH. This area has comfortable seating, including furniture from IKEA, and a lot of space for you to throw down a floor cushion and relax.
The bedrooms here are cozy, spacious and have a charm of their own. The four poster beds add a vintage feel to the rooms without being overbearing. The rooms also have their own nooks and corners where you can spend a few quiet moments by yourself before joining the rest of your group.
Even though this home was a vacation spot for the owner’s family, it had been lying shut for years. When the OYOxDesign team took over, this property was in ruins. The roof was dilapidated and all the tiling had to be replaced with metal sheets. The flooring of the ground floor was changed completely and some of the windows were pushed back to increase carpet area.
This villa is near some stunning historical churches in Goa. The Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Church of St Francis of Assisi, a Catholic church built in the 17th century, and many other architectural wonders are about 3 kms away from this house.
Panaji, with several restaurants, bars and beaches, is also nearby. Popular tourist spots, like the Dona Paula beach and the casinos, are about 20-30 minutes away by car.
