1. Chowpatty beach
Chowpatty beach is a very famous beach located in the heart of Mumbai. It’s a great place to unwind a tiring day and relish the local food in the evening. Usually, this beach is buzzing in the evening hours because people love to come to see the beautiful sunset and then try some food from local vendors. Other than that, Chowpatty is also a place for health-conscious people who come for a jog or yoga asanas in the early morning. Nearby is Marine drive which is the also called the ‘Queen’s necklace’.

2. Juhu beach
Even though known as ‘home to celebrities’, Juhu is still a peaceful beach. The high Bollywood influence makes this place a must visit. There have been many shootings for Bollywood movies in Juhu and that has made its name. The beach is also famous for its Mumbai style street food like ‘sev puri’,’vada pav’ and ‘bhel puri’. One of the biggest festival, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on this beach by immersing the idol of Lord Ganesha in the water.

3. Gorai beach
The Gorai beach is also called the ‘mini Goa’. It has a very calm and pleasant atmosphere which is what most people are looking for. There is a dense forest as you arrive near the beach and the beach has a cold breeze blowing constantly. The best time to visit Gorai beach is in the evening when you can witness the sunset. Gorai beach is famous for its night parties and has two major attractions nearby, Marve and Manori beaches. If you want to have an extra adventure then you can cycle up to this beach which will be a great workout for you.

Surrounded by sea on three sides, Alibaug has numerous beaches. Founded in the 17th century, rumour says that the name Alibaug or Alibag was derived from a wealthy Muslim who has many plantations in this place. It is located in the Konkan region of Maharashtra and has many beaches as well as ancient forts. The most famous beaches are Alibaug beach, Kihim beach, Akshi beach, Mandwa beach, Kashid beach and Murud beach.

This picturesque beach consists of both black and white sand. Located close to Alibaug, this beach with serene beauty is not to be missed. There are other attractions near the beach like the Korlai fort, a functioning lighthouse and an old Church that dates to 1728. Korlai is suitable to be visited after the monsoon since it cools down the temperature. If you are visiting before monsoon then expect heat on the beach.

Kashid beach is also preferred during festival holidays when people want to take few days off from their busy schedule and enjoy the tranquillity of a beach.

7. Dahanu beach
If you want to be in peace for a few hours then visit Dahanu Beach. The beauty of this beach has not been spoilt by tourism yet. The black sand beach is rare and makes itself a unique attraction. The view of the vast sea is serene and walking around the beach barefoot is like a therapy. The beach has many cafés and restaurants which offer a wide variety of delicious food. There are many resorts with beach view so you can spend your entire day on the beach.

8. Murud Janjira beach
Murud beach is famous because of its pristine beauty and the Janjira Fort for which gives a historic touch to the beach. The fort is in the middle of the Arabian sea and is said to be built by Ahmednagar rulers. A 20-minute boat ride which costs RS 60 for adults and RS 30 for children, will take you to the fort which is oval in shape, unlike other royal forts which are square or rectangular. The fort is said to have third largest Cannon in India which weighs 22 tons. The beach, on the other hand, has some amazing fresh seafood dishes for visitors.

9. Harihareshwar Beach
Located only 20 km away from Mumbai, Harihareshwar beach is one of the most popular beaches in Maharashtra. You can enjoy the calm beach with a soft breeze and delicious local snacks or you can go on an adventure boat ride to see the remains of the kingdom of Peshwas. The beach offers you both the sides and you can choose as per your will. The most famous food offered at Harihareshwar beach is the Maharashtrian Thali which has a wide variety of food.

With only around 100 houses, Ganpatipule is a small village with spectacular beaches. Located along the Konkan coast it is an attraction for peace-seekers. You can enjoy the camel ride on the beach as well. There is a Ganpati temple attached to the beach. Nearby attractions include Jaigad fort and aare-ware. Many water sports like a bike ride, jet ski and boat ride. The water has rocks, so try not to go deep into the water without precautions.

Guhagar beach has just started being listed on the tourism map. It stretches in 6 km and is backed by dense trees. Velneshwar and Hedvi are two major attractions in Guhagar. Water sports are quite famous in Guhagar but keep in mind that during the monsoon these sports are closed for safety purpose. The beautiful white sand beach has a lighthouse as well as a temple Vyadeshwar in the town.

12. Manori Beach
Manori Beach is very close to Mumbai and is located in the northern region, very close to Manori Creek. If you just want to relax by the beach and enjoy the fishing activities going on around, then Manori is the place for you. The beach is perfectly calm and quiet and you will have seagulls to give you company. It is also close to Essel World, one of the major amusement parks near Mumbai.

13. Shrivardhan Beach
Located about 20 km away from Harihareshwar, the beach is about 120 km away from Mumbai. The beach is calm and quiet and is a popular place for photoshoots as the beach is relatively secluded. However, a little way off, there are options for water sports and paragliding and surfing are done here. One can also go for trekking in the woodlands by the beach for small adventures.

14. Nagaon Beach
For tourists of both Mumbai and Pune, Nagaon Beach occupies a central position and is hence easy to reach. The stay in beach facing cottages is what most people want when they come here and there are a number of water sports to be enjoyed here as well. The beach is clean and the eateries along the beach serve the most lip smacking delicacies you have ever tasted. The beach is also considered one of the safest for swimming and boating. There are seven or eight types of boats here which the tourists can rent.

15. Diveagar Beach
Located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, this is a very sparely populated beach with just a few scattered villages here and there. This leaves the beach very clean and the plantations of coconut and palm are the main occupation of the little population here. There is a temple here which serves as the heart of the community. Recently some resorts have come up in the vicinity and that has made it easier for tourists to stay here. Beetle nut farming is also popular here and tourists take back some of them while returning.

16. Daman Beach
Going to Daman will surely open up whole new vista for you. Daman and Diu are not very frequently visited, which is why only the nature lovers come here to enjoy the calm and cool ambience. Devka Beach is the most popular beach here and you will find walking on the soft sands has never been more therapeutic.

17. Uran Beach
Located in the Konkan district of Maharashtra, this region is located at the end of Navi Mumbai and is quite easily accessible from Mumbai city center. There are smaller beaches here like Pirvad and Mankeshwar. The village here is surrounded by water on all three sides and if you stay here overnight, you will be treated to fresh catch from the sea for next day’s meal. There is a spectacular temple of Lord Shiva in Mankeshwar and the weekends see a deluge of visit to this beach. There is an ONGC gas plant at the beach which provides employment to the local population here.
