History of Lake Bernstein
Bernsteinsee – when translated, means Amber (Bernstein) Lake (see), was once a sand and gravel excavation site, where amber was reportedly discovered during the Elbe Lateral canal construction in the 1970s. Over time, it transformed into today’s popular recreation lake and nature resort, making it a beautiful eco-restoration success story. The lake is up to 16 meters deep and spans approximately 95,000 m². However, large areas along the shore are very shallow, which makes it ideal and safe for tourists and water activities.
